Got my 1275 engine and head today

i think its a cooper S bored 20 or 40 thou, but its got a mark1 head.

any one know anything bout the mark1 heads?? all i know is that i gotta keep it cool or it will crack between the valves

how do i tell what size pistons are in it... i know theres a code ontop of the piston but doesnt make sence to me.

the engine was running fine in the moke it came outa but i think ill rebuild the whole thing any way...

i plan to put in:

* lumpy Cam
* Lightend cam followers
* Race valve springs
* 1:5 ratio Roller rockers or Tipped rockers
* New pistons and rings and bearings (full rebuild kit) etc..

Its got a dual timing chain and i got a new flywheel with it and a new clutch kit.

Haven t really started anything yet but ill post when i do :(

heres some pics.. but tell us what u think of the head... ta..

Hi Mate,

Looks like you got your self a nice little clubby. Dont suppose they rot much out there! Me and the Mrs were out your way last year for six months, but we couldn't go all that way and not drive an Ozzy Moke! Had a great time!

As for the piston numbers try googling it!

Man I love the Australian Clubbies. Not sure why but they just seem so much cooler than the ones we have!

As for the block, if its large bore and has tappet covers on the back then its Cooper S. I *think* it should also have 1275S stamped on the back, but don't hold me to that one.

As for the valve sizes, the size isn't usually stamped on them, so you'll need to measure, preferably with a vernier.

It doesnt have tappet covers.... but ill see what it has stamped on it wen i get home..

what are tappets?? same as cam followers?

on the top of the piston the code reads "21253+0.508" ne ideas?? dont care about valve size... there in good nic i think so ill just get some lapping compound this weekend and give em a lappin...

also does any one know if theres supposed to be 4 studs to hold the rockers on.. or is one a bolt?? because im seem to be missing one :thumbsup:

also got an update on engine bay and bit of interior work and new sound sys :thumbsup:

ill post pickeys wen i get home.

lil bit of an update on the new engine.

Taken it all apart completely, taken the block in to be bored out another 20thou so it will be 1275cc + 0.040. That will be pressure washed as well

also taken apart the head and polished it up a bit. Got no photos because im doin it at a mates place and forgot the camera.

i think the flywheel in the engine thats in the mini atm is about had it... :S so i better get a move on with the swap...

ive decided on the colour scheme to.... the whole cars goin black with a blue pearl... and the contrast color will be a wicked silvery blue. (for all the little bits and poo... like the ignition coil and stuff like that... also bought myself a fire extinguisher :shifty:
