Thanks Hugh

Not a great day today, the universal subframes for the cobra seats are awful, wasted too much time trying to fit them and then the seat was too high, cut the brackets down and I`m not happy at all so going to need to get some genuine ones. This is stopping me putting doors on and stuff though as there is not that much room in the garage. Also going to need some new headlights as mine are knackered, the reflector is rattling around in one of them. Had to take the stalks apart the other night and use some bits of my old ones as the plastic clamp bit was broke off, my fault for buying them but they were still in the bubble wrap from a show I bought them from last year.

Anyway onward and upward, will have a look at seat belts and windows tomorrow I think.

Cheers

Dave

Update time, today was major milestone as the engine now runs :D far too weak but it settled down a bit once it got a bit of warmth. The plan now is to get everything else sorted and get it on its wheels then sort the running of the engine outside the garage.

I will put some pictures up tomorrow but I`ve got the two rear side windows in. Tried to put the rear screen in but it was being a right pain and we need more string. The C pillar cards that came with my headlining kit are a bit thick so it`s not easy getting the rubber over them.

Did not get as much done as I`d hoped for over the long weekend but its coming together, should have the new headlights, indicators and seat subframes this week so can crack on with it.

Cheers

Dave

Here is how the engine is looking now, just got a few fiddly breather pipes to sort out it`s pretty much there.

Not a great video but you can hear it running :D

Well she`s now down on her wheels :D

The list of jobs to do is getting smaller but I can see one being a nightmare to sort out:
Finish doors and fit
Get timing spot on and tune carbs (check tappets as well)
Front and rear screens in
Bolt passenger seat down
Get electrics working

I put the stalks on the other night and thought I`d try the indicators etc drivers side one`s worked first time but doesn't anymore, only one side light comes on and no headlights, no brake lights either. I`m thinking its something like a fuse somewhere or a bad earth that is knocking everything off >_<

Being on the road for himley hall is not looking good at the moment but she`ll be on the road soon enough.

Cheers

Little bit of an update, rear screen is now in just need to get the locking strip in some how.

Posted Image

After replacing the fuse box we now have some lights. I say some because the dip beam works but then when I put main beam on it just turns the lights off and the flash does nothing O_O I`m going to replace some of the connections behind the slam panel to see if that helps.

Also the flasher lights in the speedo cluster do not work aswell as one of the lights inside that light the speedo side of the dials.

Posted Image

I`ve taken the cluster back out and will have a good look at it when I get chance, anybody got any ideas?

Many thanks

Dave

Small update. The electrical issues are now sorted :D The main beam now works thanks to some new connectors under the slam panel.New flasher units has sorted the hazards and indicators and the fog light was not getting a live feed so taken one from the light switch and that now works great. I`ve just put my new steering wheel on but forgot to take a photo >_< I have got one showing the locking strip in the rear window, sorry for the poor quality, new camera time soon and it was taken in the garage yesterday with the door shut as it was chucking it down all day.

We are having some running issues though, it was taking ages to fire and then the revs would shoot right up on the choke but die without. After some research my dad found some paperwork on SU carbs which said first of to set the jet 2 turns below the bridge, done that and a bit more fiddling with timing and idle screws she is getting better but need to get her warmed up propely and running stable to really tune the carbs but we are getting there. The battery has taken a hammering so put it on charge yesterday and just started it up now and it fires much better.

Getting there slowly, thanks for looking, any comments very welcome.

I have managed to get a bit done this afternoon. The horn now works after I put a new connector on the live feed, the old one was covered in dirt and corroded. I also managed to get the passenger seat bolted in, the missus has been asking when her seat was going in =]

Posted Image

I had a little helper outside with me today

I went to fit the windscreen yesterday but when it was halfway in I could see lots of scratches all over it and it was etched with another minis reg so I have ordered a new screen through a friend. Did not want to get it in then after a week of driving it want a new screen.

Going away for the weekend but will hopefully get a fair bit done tomorrow afternoon and monday.

Thanks for stopping by

Dave

Hi Graham,

The seats do look good but I have had problems with them as I have found out they are not genuine cobras, I bought them at a show last year for about £150 as far as I remember, too good of a deal to be true it turned out. I had to buy genuine subframes and then found the seat fouled on the bar you lift to move the seat, I have managed to sort it by putting packers between the seat and the frames at the front and bending the bar a little, not ideal but its alright.

The dog is tied up, if she saw a cat she`d be off. Your dog looks lovely if your avatar.

Well after a day of faffing around trying to get the old girl running right we have found the answer. Me and my dad had been scratching our heads for weeks now as to why we couldn`t get the twin carbs set up and the engine running right without a miss fire. In the end we thought sod it we`ll put the old single inch and half carb back on. Low and behold as we take the twins off we find this >_<

Posted Image

We are going to put the single back on just to get it running right and then I`ll sort a new manifold out and try again with the twins at some point.

Cheers

Dave
