Hi guys
i have had a quick search and not found anything
My 1999 paul smith seems to be blowing its fuses out, it started last sunday when it was absolutly pouring with rain i was driving home, and on the busiest roundabout it could find it decided to blow rightmost of the four engine bay fuses out. once i got it home i gave all of the fuses a good clean replaced the blown one and carried on as normal (assuming the rain had caused a short, it ran absolutly fine for a week and then i too it into town tried starting it and the engine turned over fine but it would not catch so i got out and gave all of the wires around the ecu and coil pack a good wiggle, got back in and it started straight away, i went to pull out of the parking space and it died having blown the same fuse as before i went to the local auto factors grabbed another fuse (40a instead of 30 it was all they had!) put it in and it blew that straight away so i got towed home for a second time that week! not great considering its only been my daily driver for 2 and a half weeks!
any ideas?
Thanks
Reuben

Hi Reuben....I had a similarish problem a few years ago....It turned out to be a wire that emerges out of a 'plastic block' ( sorry - no idea what its for...) just above expansion bottle. It had been rubbing away against the underneath of the bonnet and ending up shorting out on one of the ribs (left a nice black burn mark on the paint).....I repaired the sheath and put a bit of hose over it to give a bit more protection. I've attached a photo showing you where it is........Might be worth a check before doing anything else....fingers crossed !!!!

fuse 4 is the power supply to the relay pack and the injection system. Things fed fron the relay pack are the fuel pump, starter solenoid, Lambda sensor heater, both injectors, stepper motor, ignition coil, ECU and the purge valve, indicated in the picture above. That is all fuse 4 supplies.

I would agree that if the car drives well when the fuse is replaced but blows after a journey, it is most likely a shorted wire. Fix it before i starts a fire  look in all areas mentioned

miniboy71....your engine bay is the nicest ever. Theres few parts that I have no idea what they do:-) Above where the carb is for one. top engine. sorry for invading the post:-)

but to help out, is the wiring in good cond? I brought my mini and it had lots of bodge jobs that was causing the fuses to randomly pop. Slowly getting there with fixing everything but yes, check all the wiring is done well. Like above said, check for frayed wire to.
