Hi all
I am currently restoring my Mini and I have been following the Mini Magazine articles on the subject that they ran last year. I have got the front panel off tonight but when i got down to taking off the Pig's ears and the other tab that is spot welded, there seems to be another piece on top of it which appears to be (rather too thickly) welded on. Problem is, is I'm not sure what to do. Do i just go for it and take both sets off, as i am worried about damaging the inner wings as these only need slight patching.
Or can i leave them on, get some rust eater and then seal them up so that they don't cause anymore rust
Any input would be gratefully received
Cheers

A Right Pig's Ear!

i think he means the 2 small panels that are on the rear of the front panel and are spot welded onto the bottom of the outer part of the inner wings.
it is normal practice to cut the old ones down and weld the ones fitted on the front panel over the original ones.
if the inner wings are sound you can cut off the overlapped ones then drill the spot welds out of the original ones and then fit the front panel, it all depends on the state of the inner wings.

Ah right. It was the one welded on top I was getting confused about.
