It's my Birthday coming up soon and I'm thinking of asking dad to get me a door skinning tool as I'd like to have a go at re-skinning a couple of doors... and make a decent job of it.

Looking at one end of the scale, Snap-On have this on their site.

Compared to this tool from Machine Mart, it looks quite fancy.

Would anyone be able to offer an opinion on the tools? What can the Snap-On one to that the Machine Mart tool cant? Will I achieve a better finish with the Snap-On tool? It it perhaps not even worth the bother with these tools?

Many thanks,

/- Ed

Ok so I definately won't bother with the fancy tools.

That last one looks good though, especially when looking at the video... and the price. Might be worth trying.

Ah right. Not used one of them so couldn't really comment. I guess if you don't want to wake up the neighbours it's a good thing!

I'm no pro but It did seem to work well, split the skin from the door quite easily.

Have to say Peter......

Dollies are for girls, Handweights are for men.

Something I was told in my apprenticeship many many years ago

Ditto..

If you use a skinning tool you'll end up with a door full of wag (filler) as you will never get a good finish with one.
