Depends,

Could be engine steady 'n mounts if it's more of a clunk, or it could be your clutch.

Still sounds like slipping clutch to me, could be a problem with airflow as well, have you changed anything like that recently?

maybe but from what i can tell its not the clutch as i dont even have to touch the clutch to make it start juddering its just as i accelerate from say 30mph in 3rd and 4th the car just jumps and judders forward feels like a back fire if you get me

I'm with Rhys on this one. Sounds like you've got a contaminated clutch plate, maybe from a faulty primary gear oil seal. My brothers suffererd from a lot of clutch judder after changing his clutch and seal (without using the proper tool).

I've also got a very similar problem on my scenic, which I'm thinking is the clutch too.

its so annoying because when u want speed it takes a while till you even get some, not the safest thing

It is a hard one to diagnose without seeing the car. It could be an ignition (sticking advance) or fuel (lean out) issue but you'd expect it to happen in all gears. It could just not be noticeable in 2nd because it's a higher ratio.

The clutch still seems likely, the higher the gear the greater proportion of the car's mass the engine and clutch will see per revolution. Try slowly pressing the clutch next time it happens the clutch should disengage very easily if it is slipping.

The other way to check the clutch is to park up, put the hand brake on, put it in gear and slowly let the clutch out. If the clutch is fine then the engine will labour and eventually stall. If not, then the clutch will slip. If the juddering is worse when it's cold it 'could' be because if it's contaminated with oil and dust (from the clutch) then when it's cold the contamination is going to be 'slimey' and lumpy, but as it warms up then it will become more like an oil and slip more freely ie. less juddering.

Not pretending to be an expert on this, just speaking from personal experience. But do the test I've suggested above on a hot engine and see how hard the engine works to move the car.

Let us know how you get on :P
