The original antenna of my mini was broken when I got it, and today I got the best bargain ever; a brand new (generic) antenna for 5p yes 5p!
(halfords in reading towncentre is closing down and selling their last stock)

Here are some pics of my original antenna (what is left of it):

Is there a bolt underneat or do I use the cross to unscrew it from the top?

there's usually a gripper type thing under neath so I'd suggest trying to undo the top of the aerial...

Another tip would be not to put your new aerial under the wing... look at you photo and look at the cr*p and mud etc up there... how long do you think you nice leccy aerial is going to last in there... Get a little rubber gromet and blank that hole off.. and if you feel brave... cut a hole in the rear quarter panel ( opposite side to the fuel tank ) and put your aerial in the boot ( away from the outside world... )

This is where I put the aerial on one of my cars... it's easy to install, and the reception is brilliant... I've got another one to install in the same place on my other car!

Am I understanding correct that you put the antena on the inside of the boot?
Doesnt the faraday cage principle mess up reception?

Gosh. What an old topic.

(And I didn't even scratch the paint...)
