First ting, nice video makes it much easier to understand.

Right, have you checked with a voltmeter to see if you are getting the constant 12v feed?

Also have you got it on a permanent or ignition live?

Lets go from there.

The Feed is a permanent 12V, tested with a circuit tester (buzzer), taken directly from the starter solenoid. The circuit is earthed through the bulkhead, again, when tested,.. seems fine. currently, both the memory and the main power are permanent....

A voltmeter would be better as it may have a constant feed but not 12v.

Try earthing it to an engine earth although it is baffling as it does seem to pulsate rhythmically.

Obviously it can only be the live and the earth that are the issue.

Also what happens if you press eject?

Thanks for the suggestion mate,... I've tried earthing it to the heater case, and the large earth point on the drivers side inner wing already, still it persists.

One interesting thing... If I press the hazards switch on it stops the HU working altogether,.. however the hazards do not flash anyway (no lights attached, car is being rebuilt now) also,.. this happens with the headlamp switch.

That really is odd, from what i can tell, you are having a problem with the live, you should temporarily link it up to a different live and see if that changes it. You could get the battery on the seat and link it straight up for a test.

Yup, worth a shot.... my only other thought is that perhaps (i think this is a minimal chance) but there is one thing i havent' connected, illumination....

how often do mobile phones break simply because the backlight dies,.. could be that the player wont function with out the orange 'illumination' wire being hooked up,.. again,.. switched live i guess

Well there is a slim chance that could happen, again is worth a go, just wedge the illumination in the same bullet connector as the lives and see if that works. Try one thing at a time to make sure you find the problem.

Going to buy a new decent multimeter tomorrow and rig the player up on my workbench with the battery etc..

Yeah that seems worth it. I come back to this tread tomorrow then and see how you got on. If you get more problems with it i we will have to trouble shoot again.

Well, measured my battery voltage today,.. Just over 10v... so not looking, got it on charge but i fear it might be time for a new one *sigh*

Could this low voltage be the cause of the unusual behaviour?

Yes the low voltage would do this. It needs something like 12 volts to turn on I think, so wh nyou turn on your head unit it takes some voltage which is then too low for it to turn on so it turns off. Once off the voltage again returns to 12v and the head unit tries to turn on again dropping the current and turning off. This is the problem I am currently having with my amplifers. Try plugging the battery back into the car and then the battery charger onto it. That should perk up the voltage a little bit and turn on the head unit.

did you try conecting the power cable then turning the car on having the car on will produce enough power to provide the cd player

when my corsa was doing what yours was doing i put the earth and memory together and it stopped but then i also changed the earth cable and the areial cable but that could of helped

No, there is no engine in my mini.

I doubt changing the ariel would do anything, and joining the earth and memory would mean the stereo doesn't have an earth

Changing the earth could have helped you, however I have tested my earths and lives now (which are their own seperate feeds etc so the CD player is not joined in anyway to anyother component on the car apart from the live) and they're sound.

Think it's just a dead battery.
