Well im been offered a carbon fiber bonnet, but the paint has splintered, so im guessing this is down to a problem with the gel coat that has then effected the outer pain....
So my question is what is the cure to this problem? would i just rub it back and paint as normal, or will the splinering just re-occure?

Proper etch primer is required, otherwise paint won't stick properly to laminates.

No its not that its the gel coat that has cracked and this has caused the paint to crack.... Etch primer was used.

I've not come across carbon fibre with a gelcoat, but gelcoat crazing is common in GRP - my bonnet below has some of the cracks ground out, but many still to go.
you need to grind off the offending gel areas and reapply or fill.

Cheers, so it would need to be taken back to before the gel coat and then filling, then painting.

Pretty much yes, but it's a good idea to grind down, one new layer of fibre and resin, then a slight skim of filler over the top - this way, if the crack goes into the fibres it gets sealed back in.
