The nearside brake binds, this causes it to pull slightly to the left all the time and pull even more under braking. They are standard 8.4" discs with standard pads and standard AP calipers. I've taken the caliper off and found the pistons to be pushed quite far out, you can see clean metal which is not normally exposed. I pushed them back in, not all the way in though as they didn't seem to go any further, and refitted them. The problem was not resolved. Do the pistons need to be pushed all the way back in or will the problem just come back as soon as I next apply the brakes? Does it require a new brake caliper, I assume you have to change both calipers like you do with brake pads and brake shoes?

It could be it's lost the dust seal if you can see shininess. I'd start by stripping both sides (one at a time :ermm: ) and working the pistons in and out a few times until they are nice and free. Use the pedal to push them out and a big spanner to lever them back in. Pop a pad back in so you can work on one piston at a time and take a little care so you don't push the piston out of the caliper all together. you may find some new pads are in order if they are worn unevenly.

Agree with ETHEL, get some good quality mintex brake pads, take the calipersof the hub and work on them with wd40 and clean them up, replace new dust seals if there missing and rebuilding using a light smear of cooper slip to the rear of the brake pads to prevent squeal etc.....

Will pick up some new brake pads sometime this week and try pushing the pistons in and out a few times.

Thanks for the help.
