Hi
I have just replaced the boot lid seal on my mini. It is an early type, clipped onto the bootlid itself. After putting the new one on, I find that the boot lid needs a great deal of force to close, and when it does, it seems like the rear panel (below the rear window) is getting stressed quite a bit.

Is this normal for new boot lid seals? Do they need time to `settle' in to their new shape?
Currently the boot lid sits around 3mm proud of the rear panel at the top, and it should be flush.

Any help will be really a cool.

Thanks

I had the same problem as you, and it started to bend the boot skin by the hinges.I ditched the seal and found a D section softer seal
that glued on and seems to have worked but i don't know were i got it from, but I know phoenix mini trim had something like it on their
trade stand last time I looked give them a call they are very helpful.

Hi
Yes, i thought so, as on my other Mk1, when I first bought the car the boot was tight, and now it closes much easier. I am currently working on repairs to the rear end, putting in a new boot floor etc, and so will keep this squished for as long as possible during that process.

Thanks guys for the help

Cheers

I had exactly the same problem yesterday; fitted a new seal (with existing clips), it was a real struggle to close the boot lid, which then kept popping open while driving.
So I just removed it. Will try again though!

I forgot to say, the reason I replaced the old seal was that rain was getting into the boot. Not ideal. But even without a seal in place for 2 days, no rain has got in.......

I don't suppose you spotted me looking in the boot to work out where my leak was coming from today did you? Just ordered myself a new seal because the old one's a mess, but I don't think that's where the water's getting in.
