Hm. some peeps have been kind enuf to give me some advice but am still a bit stuck.

ok i have painted my car. its a flat colour (BWM Apine White)
I used halfords paint whcih is acrylic.
I have NOT put a clear laquer on it as i thought that was only for metalic colours, not flats.

now i want to get rid of the orange peel effect that is caused by spraying from a can. There is a good guide in this sectionn called 'How to get that shine after painting, Guide to flatting and polishing new or tired paint' http://www.theminifo...showtopic=22735 This shows how to wet sand to make your car shiney. What i need to know is:

1. can i use this wet sanding and buffing techque.. or is it only for cars that have a clear laqyeur coat?
2. do this work on acrylic paint or is it only for clever peeps that have 2pac stuff?
3. how long should i let the paint cure before i can do this?
4. i have looked on ebay for G3 and there are lots of different products.. which 1 exactly do i need for this process?

thanks for any help.

1. No, solid colours can be flatted and buffed. Youll just notice the colour coming out in the water unlike laquer.

2. It should work as 2k is acrylic of some sort anyway I think. Try a test area that is not seen first.

3. The paint needs to be hard enough to dig you nail in without marking it. Dont go at it like a mad man though! About a week if you didnt use an oven or heat to paint it.

4. Regarding the g3, its all pretty much the same, some just comes in smaller tubes etc. We use 1 litre or 1.5 litre bottles of it at work. And you need an orbital buffer and Farecla compounding mop head. Dont use a grinder as it will be way to fast, be uncontrollable and burn the paint. Use a little water if you find it easier, but as you get better you dont need to use water really.

What he said! ^ but make sure there's enough depth of paint before you start flatting, otherwise you could easily rub through.
