Back to the slightly controversial "tuning an auto" issue - how can i specifically improve torque with the mods i intend?

I want to retain a nice smooth idle and needs to pull away with little revs.

Oh,it's a 1275
Stage1 kit - (with cooper freeflow)

Head work - would work on the head just give results at the top end? - Vizard seems to just look at max HP figures
Cam - been advised to leave this alone.....Or its there a cam that will give more torque with a smooth idle?

Carb - should i go to a 1 3/4" or keep the 1 1/2"?

Or should i forget about everything else and just increase the capacity to make a low revving bucket of grunt?

My problem is that my journey to work involves laaaaarrrggee busy roundabouts and getting a quick getaway saves on the underpants!

I know going mad will probably bugger up the autobox after a while so i'm looking for spares in the meantime! (thought i'd get this in before someone else....lol!)

Thanks,
Ade.
