Wonderful news.

A Welsh individual called Emyr Phillips contacted minimag about the Hornet and may have more information on these conversions, all very exciting.

I've also got all my bits ready to send to the DVLA to request info on previous owners to try to find out as much as I can about the car, when it was converted, and by who.

Dave

great project, id love to own a hornet, maybe not a convertible tho
also, how do you get info on the previous owners?

Probably ages since you asked, but I'll answer anyway.

There's an address at the DVLA, Information from Records, I think, and if you send them a letter explaining a valid reason to be requesting information, and a cheque to pay, (£5), they will send you all previous name and address records for the vehicle.

I'll then write to each of them, with a couple of pictures and a brief description of my plans for rebuilding the car, and ask them to send me anything they know, and copies/scans of any old photo's they may have, usually people seem quite accomodating, but if not it's not a big loss.

Ideally I want to know who done the conversion, and when, and also what else the cars done.

I've done nothing with this Hornet in months, as I've been fiddling with Molly and the Mini 30, and my Hornet Saloon, (in my garage).

Now the 30 and Molly are on the road, the saloon is next, and then I'll drag out this Hornet cabrio, and get on with her.

No worries though, she's safely kept in a nice dry barn!

Never seen one of those before, looks a really good project. Is this going to be your main project over the summer?

I wish!
I'm just finishing the trailer and getting Molly through her MOT by the end of the month, then the Hornet saloon is the summer project.
This is sitting in dry storage until I've sorted that one out, and then I'll get back on it!

Yup, looks like a Keiths convertibles kit, but not that well done.

I was going to strip the shell, and redo the conversion with a bit more panache, to make her into a roadster with pillarless doors, (something like the Lamme or Rover cabrio's), and make it into a bit of a special...

Also back to it's original pale green coloue I think.

Hi dave, I'm just in the process of converting a GT using one of the kits from autofashion - its a lot more in depth than the keiths convertibles kits and involves chopping the top completely with no roll bars window frames etc - its a lot of work and a well thought out kit with massive strengthening beams in the sills and basically reinforcing everywhere, a bit like the rover mini one but even stronger - if you want to swap notes let me know
cheers

Hi Martin,
That sounds more like what I'm after, can you send me some details and pictures, so that I can take a look.
I don't like the rollover hoop, and was thinking about chopping the lot off, then either strengthening the sills to keep the doors, or fix the doors shut and run strengthening beams through there.
Dave

Thanks Joe, you should put a project thread up, or did I miss that bit?
