OK, I hesitate to ask this question as it and the answer will show the world I have no idea what I'm talking about :( but here it goes: I'm rebuilding a 81 Morris Mini. Its all in bits now but I'm making progress. I want to replace some of the old nuts and bolts with shiny new ones. I mean I have brand new brakes, coilovers etc, but I can't find new nuts and bolts so I'm relegated to trying to clean up the old ones. I went to Halfords today to look for nuts and bolts but it seems they have different threads. Where would I get new nuts and bolts for my mini? Does anyone sell a pack? Am I missing something and are these available somewhere? I know it sounds like a lame question but please help.
Chris

Try minispares they pretty much sell any nut and bolt they even sell those tiny annoying nuts and washers that go on the top of the float bowl singularly.

Hi chris, sounds like you've got well stuck in.
there are a few places online that do the sort of stuff your after, first one that springs to mind is these folk...click here
Namrick,a few mates of mine have used them, all good things about them. Heading to Halfords would be a right pain every time you need a nut or bolt lol.
Hope this helps my friend! good luck

http://www.moss-euro...lassicMini.aspx

you can look up the part number then get the bolt's dimensions near the back of the catalogue.

Replacing all the nuts and bolts and washers and other small fittings on the car with new original equipment will cost around £2000.00. Take it from someone who made this costly mistake during their first rebuild when they were young.

It isn't necessary, if the fasteners still have a good thread and aren't badly corroded or stretched they will still work fine. Replace what needs replacing, spring washers, seals and gaskets and the like. The rest will clean up well enough with a wire brush (the brass tooth brush type are perfect) and some Gunk. You could actually buy yourself a small desktop electric powered parts washer tank for far less than the cost of replacing all the fasteners in the car. One of the many different parts manuals will be excellent for telling you what goes where and what amount of washers and the like you should find at each location when you rebuild. Buy any missing bits but don't replace what is still in good servicable condition.

If you source replacements from non original equipment suppliers make sure they are the correct grade. I wouldn't trust a generic bolt pack from Halfords to be made of high tensile steel even if they were the right thread.

Before you thread anything non-genuine into the car make sure it is the correct thread form. The Mini has many different threads in use, UNF, UNC, Metric, Metric superfine, BSF, BA..... Make sure you are using the right part to avoid damage.

Don't be tempted by stainless. Stainless may look pretty but is useless for holding things together. The prettier it is, the more brittle it becomes. Grades of stainless that are strong enough to replace high tensile steel have little more corrosion resistance than high tensile does anyway and are a lot heavier.

nuts and bolts are nuts and bolts, they dont have to come from a mini specialist. a garage wouldnt use specific mini parts, jus any old nut and bolt.
try screw fix there usually pretty good for price. u could use all stainless too if u wanted, no more seized nuts to fight with.

edit:

make sure u get same spec bolts. forgot to mention that bit.
as others have mentioned, some are high tensile.
but in general, for the odd nut or bolt. screwfix are very good.

As Dan has said be careful some of the bolts on the mini are high tensile ie.lower bottom arm/tie bar bolts using
inferior bolts here would be suicidal.

This advice is very dangerous. Please read the line in red at the top of every technical page. DO NOT use nuts and bolts from Screwfix or B&Q to hold important parts of cars together, these plated fittings are generally made of a very inferior mild steel material. Fortunately they don't hold stock of most of the threadforms required in a Mini. If you don't know how to read the grading information stamped into a fastener or are given a fastener to use that has no grading at all, buy geniune parts instead.

i agree. my bad.
i've edited my post.

i was in a rush at work n forgot to post that bit.
unless you know what spec ur looking for, on major structural parts get the right bits.
i ment in general, for the odd nut and bolt that isnt on a major structural compontent, screwfix is very good.
id never buy them from B&Q tho.

apologies for bad info and anyones subframe falling off.

Screwfix and B&Q are the same shop with different names, they are both part of Kingfisher group and share stock purchasing between them.
