I installed a Pacet electríc fan to my 1293 mini. It works wonders but doesnt last long. it only cuts in when it needs to and only ever has to run for abot 30 seconds to cool the water enough for it for it to cut off. The lacker in the the motor melts which makes it draw more current then the fuse blows. The first fan that the blades wouldnt turn easily but the second fan was solid and the blades wouldnt turn at all. Pacet has replaced the fan both times and said it is a motor fault, but im not sure as the second one has gone. i was just wondering if anyone else has had the same problems or recommends anything else. Thanks

Sounds like its drawing more current than it is designed for. Could well be a wiring fault...

I measuresd the current after we installed the second fan and it was drawing 19.6A. When the first fan went it was drawing 26.8A. Does this help.

A wiring fault wouldn't make it draw more current though. The wiring doesn't force feed it with current to overload the motor, the motor draws what it needs and, in this case, does appear to being drawing an excessive current which would indicate an internal problem.

Is it feasible that the motor is getting subjected to heat from somewhere else that could cause the laquer and insulation within the motor windings to break down? Are the blades free when the fan is installed?

Yes they are. i checked that they are free to move once i had installed it. its ruber mounted too so it is not touching the metal work on the inner wing.

Measure the resistance of the motor and contact Pacet.

Ok shall do when i get home. Pacet didnt seem helpful when i spoke to them last time. they simple say its a motor fault and replace it. when the first fan went i took the motor apart because i thought it could be the bearings that could have gone but found out it wasnt, then sent it back to Pacet and they basically told me im an idiot for thinking that!! So just sent the second one straight back!!

Spoke to Pacet earlier and they basically said that the 2 fans that we had been given are new high performance fans which draw too much current and where testing them on us so they have given us a fan which only draws 9A instead of 19A so hopefully the problem is solved. thanks everyone for your help.

Measure coil resistance and IR check it. This will indicate whether the motor is electrically ok or not. The fan should be free to spin, and restrictive movement will cause more current to be consumed.

The amps you recon the fan is using is wayy too high. Find out what power the motor is rated out and supply voltage, then you get an idea of the running current. Fans shouldnt use much current at all.

Current = Power / Voltage

Hope this helps.

Is the impellor still free to turn while it is running at speed? Fan blades bend as they are loaded with the force of moving all that air, they bend against the direction of airflow. They could be rubbing against something while bent if there isn't enough clearance.
