my mini has been off the road for 5-6 weeks now since my 998 went pop. ive been rebuiding a 1275 unit in my spare time but with the vintage rallies and my tractors its taken a long time. i finally have the engine built now and will be fitting it tomorrow. unfortunately its going to remain standard for the time being apart from a stage one kit, mainly due to lack of funds and also the useless t**ts at minisport!

i have built the engine up with new piston rings and seals/gaskets right through. has the 12g940 head which has been decoked and valves lapped. hopefully should be a nice reliable engine.

should be back on the road next week with a bit more power!Attached File  Photo_0045.jpg   94.68K   12 downloadsAttached File  Photo_0046.jpg   87.54K   13 downloads[attachmen

dont know what to do with it at the min to be honest. will probably run it through the summer now and then sell it. need the money for a decent sized family car. was going to sell my landrover as well but cant for a minute. had a letter from a bank saying the landrover belongs to them under a hire purchase agreement!!!!! ive had it for 3 years and bought it from a well known new and used car dealership! anyway they are having to investigate it so im stuck with the landrover untill its all cleared up. as soon as i can sell the landrover i shall probably sell the mini as well.

ive had nothing but agro with minisport and certainly wont be using them again. i ordered all my parts for my 1275 rebuid on the 28th may. paid £8 odd for 24/48hr delivery but nothing turned up even after 2 weeks! so i rang them and complained. they said it was posted the day before(yeah right) anyway the next day still nothing but i had an email from them saying that the camshaft i had ordered will be another 2-3 weeks as it wasnt in stock!!! i was fuming so told them were to stick there camshaft and parts and wont be using them again.i dont mind if parts are out of stock but it would be nice to be told. as for waiting over 2 weeks for the rest of it, its discusting. and to top it all some of the parts i did get was wrong to what i ordered!

is your car sorted yet?

do you or any other members know of a GOOD local garage that can put a mini on the rolling road and set it up?

well i certaintly dont >_<
i have now been to 3 different garages and each time is a disaster
i had it running good before my last trip to the rollers and that was just kev and his friend giving it a manual tune up
but i wanted it set up perfect on the rollers BIG MISTAKE

i have had a few pm,s to say SRD in launceston is very good.
to be honest i have lost all confidence in these so called profesional engine tuners
and after last weekend i could have quite happily set fire to the mini with alan jeffreys in it!!!
dougals got his mot in a couple of weeks so i might ,,for the meantime, get them to set it up on their co machine
i think kevs going to have a gander on sunday :-

i did read the thread on your landrover UNBELIEVABLE
you seem to have the same luck as me
hope you get it all sorted and hope to see you out and about in your mini soon

well, managed to find time today and get my engine back in. head is on and carb, manifolds, starter, radiator and most of the wiring sorted again. ran out of time to fit dizzy and time it up- will do that monday night. everything went ok apart from having to modify the breather on the clutch housing as it wouldnt clear my servo (chopped and rewelded it) and the new lcb manifold i bought had thinner flanges than the inlet manifold so i filed down the flanges on the inlet manifold and welded half washers to the lcb flanges to get them the same thickness.

got to get a link pipe now to go from y-piece to silencer, thermostat housing for a 1275 (broke mine taking it off and didnt realise 998 was different), couple of exhaust mounts and think thats it.
