I searched the FAQs but didn't find any answers even though I'm sure plenty have had to solve this riddle before me, I'm definitely not the first person to have 12" wheels and need to store the spare in the boot along with the 34L tank and battery.

The problem is it doesn't seem to fit in my boot unless I let about 20psi out of the tyre. :(

So what have you all done? What's the secret?

have a small foot pump in the boot too. if ever you have a spare wheel in the car with the intent of maybe having to use it,.. you're going to want to check the pressure anyway.

I bolted my foot pump to the bottom of the drivers seat so it wouldn't take up boot space. so it was outta the way and readily available shold i need it.

Errm, just put the wheel in the boot really. How wide are your tyres?

Rover dealt with the large wheels of the Cabrio by standing the spare up against the seatback and strapping it in place.

I just got some Yokohama A539's. They're 165x60x12.

The bugger of it all is that I also just got myself a bootliner kit and I can't get that in either. >_<

It hasn't been the best weekend for this little home handyman. :(

Im not sure if putting a 12" into the boot + a boot liner kit is going to be possible, but maybe a space saver could be an option?

Good luck

can you not just get hold of a thinner steelie to put in the boot instead? the standard wheels will pop in no problem, or at least that is the case with mine...

I got a twelve with a 145 tyre and it fits in snugly under the cut out in the tank of my 85 Mayfair. I think thats what they were intending you to do. I have seen tyres stood up either way around though.

Or bolt it on the back. Actually that would look cool for a rally car!

i wouldnt want mine bolted to the back as it would cause more damage if struck by another vehicle.

its not a landrover, its a mini,my friend has a rally inspired look much like mine, his sportspack spare is bolted to the rear bulk head where the back rest used to be,as all the rear has been stripped out, just the cage, harnesses and the spare, looks good,i dont carry a spare,i have an emergency tyre inflator and failing that there is the rac,i dont use the car much, its more of a toy,but if it was my daily drive i would as suggested get a 12" steel spare with a smaller profile tyre on it!

I'll try moving the tank and see if that helps, but otherwise it looks like a smaller profile tyre will be the ticket then.

Thanks all!

It can be done, with elbow grease and patience. :D Managed it with only a few very mild swearies here.
