hi there again...havn't been in this section for a long time

while driving home on motorway today the car began misfiring very badly so managed to nurse it under a bridge to avoid the rain and set about changing the coil..... 5 mins later we were back up and running and got home.

been out again tonight and went to put my foot down in 4th and it spluttered like before but then rectified itself and has run around and got me home again..... but got a bad feeling this coil isnt going to last too long

my car is a 998 1988 and is a ballasted system with the ballst coil on the output to the +ve side is 9 volts when running so there is not too much voltage going to the coil

any help would be much appreciated (scratches head vigorously)

Yeah that will be a problem you will probably have noticed that you will have been running a very hot coil. The electronic coil is 12v, you will need a ballasted coil as to comply with your ignition system 9v is the right voltage a mini with a ballasted ignition system.

going to fit a new ballast coil tonight to rectify the problem but does anyone know why it keeps blowing coils even though the sytem is ballasted
