Greetings From Singapore

Done two major things recently. Moved to Singapore from the UK in April and last weekend, bought a Mini.
My head, and everyone else, kept telling me I don't need a car in Singapore. The taxi's are dirt cheap (true), the MRT system is brilliantly reliable (true), the station is only 5 minutes walk both from the apartment and work (true) and owning and running a car here is prohibitively expensive (also true) etc, etc, etc. And? Since when did logic get in the way of buying a motor?
It's a 1977 Mini Something (a bit more research required) and I should pick it up later next week and have some wheels again.
Had a 2.5 Subaru Legacy in the UK and before that a 4.0 Range Rover, so the 1000cc will take a bit of getting used to. However I've really bought it as a toy so plenty of time to change things. My first car was a Mini, many years ago and my son had one in the UK so we're not new to them.
I had to tell my wife I bought it on Saturday - she's in the UK at the moment, but as I have history of this sort of thing, it wasn't too bad. A while back the Range Rover was really boring me, so one day I set off to buy some potatoes and a Saturday paper. Two hours later, I returned with the Subaru. So the conversation last Saturday went something along the lines of "Hi honey, what are you doing today?" "Well, I've just gone out for some potatoes and a paper......" "Oh God, what have you bought now?" At least I can pick her up from Changi on Sunday without a taxi. Providing she has a small case!
Looking forward to getting out to play and hopefully, contribute to the forum.

Pick it up at 12 today and then off to do a dry run to Changi to make sure I can find my way home for when I pick the wife up on Sunday. I asked her if she could get the socket set and some feeler gauges in her case, but was met with the expected reply!
Raffles is a top place and one of those must do's on any Singapore trip.

I can't see why -- they're solids and would be allowed in the passenger cabinI asked her if she could get the socket set and some feeler gauges in her case, but was met with the expected reply!

I've got a 1966 (Registered 1967) Riley Elf MKII, one of only 2 in Elfs in Singapore. Been driving it almost everyday for the last 9 years. Drive it all over neighbouring Malaysia and Thailand at least 3 times a year.
There are less than 200 minis left in Singapore, and only 4 genuine Cooper S's.
george b, you're a member of the MECS? I've not met you yet. I'm a former President and current slave. Visit our website and join us for our next meet.
Haven't really explored this forum yet, but any Riley or Wolseley owners here?
Cheers to all!!
