I posted a quick question on number plates here yesterday, and having become a member only last week i was completely unaware that ther are some grumpy little children trolling about. I never knew people could have such attitude when we are all here for the same reason, fair play you oldies may have seen the topic to many times to remember but perhaps a little hint would be rather more required than an absolute firing squad of insults.

Seriously people cheer up and have a little heart with us newbies

I think you're missing the point, people aren't bothered by new people who ask basic questions. That's part of why the forum is here, to help people with less knowledge get advice. The fact of the matter is that this is a question which has been asked at least 4 times since I joined earlier this year and many more times prior to that. People don't want to keep repeating the same advice over and over again cause this doesn't help anyone. It clogs up the server and search facility with reposted questions and as such makes everyones life harder. It was just unfortunate that it was you who posted the one topic that seemed to let everyone vent their annoyance again.

Can't help but think it's you that missed the point Dave. All that was needed was a polite post pointing the OP in the right direction. I agree that some new comers should have a scout about before posting but eagerness to join the fold sometimes takes over.

People are not compelled to answer questions like these, if they've seen it before and are tired of the subject, move on! Go to another thread and don't let it bother you.

un-neccessary flaming from longer term members doesn't make this a pleasant place to be. As Take That once said; Have a little patience :errr:

Don't shoot the messenger, I'm merely trying to point out the reason why people get annoyed. I agree whole heartedly with you, if there's a topic that has been asked before, I don't really post. I know that I for one have asked some pointless questions previously. I was trying to point out that it's understandable why people get annoyed when people repost questions. OK so the guy may not have known about the search function, that's understandable, he's new, but this is an altogether too common occurance when people repost questions that have been asked lots of times before, maybe that's a failing of the forum in that the search function isn't promoted well enough to new users, I don't know. And I agree that the whole flaming thing from certain members aimed at either newbies or other members is now becoming very tiresome and uneccessary. I was trying to make him see the situation from the point of view of the other people, I agree that abusive language is not the way forward in a situation such as this but that's the way some people handle it.

The topic in question was closed by me AFTER another member posted a link to a topic with all the information in it And a number of other members answered the question leaving no doubt about the legallity! Having the same thread happening all over again just fills up space on the forum so with the information provided via the link the topic needed to go no further.
It was not a slight on Davesuth at all it was just pointing him in the right direction
