Putting 12x5 Alloys On Standard Suspension

I don't know that the width is of the factory steelies?
Seen some 12x5 wheels with 165/55 (and 60) /12 tyres, I know 5.5 and above will need mods so am looking at 12x5 only.
Would the above fill out the plastic arches better and also would it be sitting more high/low than before? Dont want a silly gap there or rubbing.

Currently got factory 145/70/12 steelies with plastic arches, and hoping to keep the factory suspension on there.

I previously had 12x5's on as per piccy, no rubbing or gaps. Not sure if it'll fill out your arches, but you've always got the option of sticking spacers on there.

no !!!! those are not 5x12 those are 4.5x12 rover alloys with a very small off-set. after market 5x12 will be different.
basically, if you go for standard 5x12 then they will be fine regarding clearance, but they will not "fill" the arches, although with 165 tyres it wont look bad.
you could go for 5x12 deep dish wheels but then you may have to trim the wings. these should fill the arches nicely but it depends on the manufacturer.
and fitting spacers is not really an option for filling arches, they are only to give internal "space"

the wings on mine arent trimmed at all.
yes, but to be honest, your front end is riding quite high. i guess in reality the need to trim will depend on the state of your front cones. take that to its natural conclusion and you can safely say that anyone who has wide wheels fitted will "eventually" need to trim their wings OR replace their front cones OR fit some hi-lo's

the tyres you want are 165/60/12 either Falkens,or yokos.
To fill the standard arches, deep dish 5x12 with above tyres.Tho it depends on maker of the wheels whether you'll have to trim a small bit (different offsets etc)
Anything under 5x12 looks over arched, and if you want, the deepest 12" wheel you can get is prob deep dish 6x12.
They require small trimming on front of wing, and an arch like group 2 wides/group 5 or Downtown arches.
6X12 is popular cause it gives you the deep sporty look the larger 13" wheels give, but you dont loose much of the mini handling (13"ers are a pig)
In terms of your ride height from arch to wheel, its not really going to change whether it be a 5, 5.5 or 6 inch wide wheel.
You'll need some hi-los to sort that out.

These are factory plastic arches, so as I'm not looking to do any major bodywork I'll need 12x5 deep dished and the whether these may or may not need trimming of any bodywork it will depend on the offset?
Not wanting any euro look shopping trolley hot hatch jobbie look, just wanting a little bit more of a filling **That dont sound too good!**

Deep dishes it is then, anyone want to hazzard a guess of an offset to look for, for a lazy bugger who refuses to cut anything? Or is it gonna be a lucky dip!

I have 13 x 7 Superlites on my other car and they look really cool but the handling is pants so may switch them to 12 x 5.5 (or 6) to improve the handling.
Hope that helps

If anyone comes across this thread on a search I hope this'll help.
Got some 12x5 deep dish superlites with 165/60/12 put on my standard factory suspension, not sure what the offset is? I hoped it might state somewhere on the back of the wheel but as I dont know what I'm looking for.......

Anyway, got them on
Before and after from front

Before and after from top (you can just see the hub cap)

Took it out for a quick spin and it DONT catch on full lock whilst turning, no rubbing either, I will be sorting suspension out at a later date as THE ANORAK said it will be something to look out for but in the meantime, it looks like I got the filling I wanted <<<
