Hi Dan here, I have stumbled upon a problem in which the manual does not answer the question. It is as follows:- The fly wheel on the MPI has to be correctly orientated, therefore can anybody tell me, with the engine being at TDC firing on number one which way up dose it go...?

I forgot to mark it when I took it off, and I thought the Hanes manual would have it in there...but no!

Any help would be good.

Cheers
Dan

It should only go on one way round I think. Can't remember exactly. But with the slots on the end of the crank rotated to the horizontal (as it shouldhave been when you took it off) then the slots on the centre of flywheel must line up with them. Then there is a keyed washer to go on the end, but be warned. The 'ridges' on the keyed washer are OFF CENTER, as are the slots in the crank and flywheel. The washer can be 'forced' in 180 degs out so be careful and make sure it all fits together nicely. Use a mirror to check the slots are aligned before fitting the washer and crank shaft bolt (if it's still in the car). If they aren't aligned, take the flywheel off and rotate it accordingly.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply.

Yes you are rite, it only goes one way round. I kew that and did not mention it in the post. The original post was put her for me by a lady friend and was done over the phone (no internet at home).
The problem with the injection engine is that the crankshaft sensor picks up a signal from a reluctance ring pushed into the flywheel. the gaps in the ring denote the TDC positions and this has to be rite. I realise now thet I did mark the flywheel and preassure plat, so all should be ok.

Thank you.

Daniel.
