Choice Of Plugs For A 1275

Morning chaps....

Im looking for some new plugs, as mine have been in there for some time I believe.

I have searched and seen these recomended: NGK BPR6ES.
However, this was for a 1300MPI.

Im running a 1275 metro engine, with a stage 1 kit, and 1.5 roller tip rockers.
It seesm that Im running a non standard cam as well ( though I dont know what, was mentioned when somebody looked at my timing, sorry I know its not very helpfull :thumbsup: )

Sorry if this question has been asked before, but choice seems to depend on what you have in the engine bay.

i have had a set of ngk bp8es's in mine, didnt last 5 minutes.

jordie have bp6es's in his, lasted all of 2 miles

another lad in our club had problems with ngk's when over in holland on the imm

maybes were just unlucky :thumbsup:

It all depends on the ignition system and the tune of the engine...

NGK's are IMO the plugs of choice

BPRs are a RESITIVE plug which are designed for electronic ignition systems, so if you are using a leccy dizzy with a specific leccy coil then they are the ones to choose.

BPs are normal and should be used in all other conditions.

The number relates to the 'coolness' of the plug, and that's not coolness as in pub talk, but in relation to the running temperature of the plug. 6 is pretty much the base line and will be ok for 99% of minis, in colder weather there can be a benefit of changing to 5's for the std engine, as they run a little hotter which makes for a better spark. Higher compression and performance motors you want to run the plug cooler so go up a number to 7's.

So in summary, if it's a std engine, then look to use either a BP6ES or BPR6ES depending on the ignition.

when you say leccy setup - does that include conversion kits inside the dizzy, specifically the £12 landy conversion :thumbsup:

I know I have have an electric ignition conversion, but as to what was changed/done to it I couldnt say.

it's more to do with the coil rather than the trigger mechanism.... If you're using a leccy coil.... eg GCL143 http://www.minispare....aspx?pid=36483, or coil pack on MPI's then the resitive plugs should be use.

eg...

I have the 'Landy' electronic points converstion on my 1330, but still using the Lucas Sports Coil, and BP7ES sparkies.

Points equipped A+'s also use resistor plugs. It depends on the plug leads too, as they can also be resistive.
