I am wanting some sound in my MKII and want to hide the head unit so that all I have is my Ipod and a docking station. I have thought about putting it under the seats but am not sure of the room or if it will get wet ( you know how Minis are).
Does anyone have any experience of this type of installation?
Cheers

I'm going to mount my headunit under the rear bench on the passenger side. My headunit even has a motorised face that can tilt upwards and a remote control so I'll still be able to see it and operate it as usual.

Pretty straight foward, what you have to 'pre-plan' though is the routing of your cable.. like the ipod cable, making sure its long enough and goes round the car in a fashion that it can't be seen.
I'd just be tempted to modify the glove box and put it in there.. that way you've got it 'to hand' so to speak if you need.

I agree with m-range I think the best place would be the glove box. At least then all the wiring is just there you don’t need to extend the power, speaker and even the aerial cables.
I’m planning of fitting my TV head unit behind a glove box type door in the dash (when i get to that stage that is) this is mainly for security but should look great as well.

i once installed just the front of the stereo into a sun visor, at customers request. i mounted the stereo in the boot, with ipod.
had to dismantle the unit, and remove the actual mounting panel for the face. then extend all necessary wires into the boot.
nightmare of a job, but very effective and unique finish.
and has for security reasons, who's going to nick a stero that is in bits.
