Evening,

I've been changing my wheel bearings as mine had some play and doing the ball joint too.

Anyway, the new bearings some with a small steel ring spacer which I FORGOT to fit to the inside of one of the hubs. So..

1) Do I need the spacer (going with the answer is yes)?

2) How do I get the seal out to get the spacer in. Don't mind destroying the seal, just want to save the bearing.

Thanks for any help chaps.

Oh, their drum from hubs as well.

boolacks I would say!
yes you do need the Ring.
you have done both sides? if you look inside you will see a two notches with a small drift you can tap the bearing out, tapping a little bit at a time.

If you've already torqued it up without the spacer fitted then the bearings are scrap Adam.

No, just fitted the bearing (hubs on the work bench). I'm dim, but not that dim.

Just need to get the seal out.

Edit

Only done one side.

Press through the middle. Get the bearing race nicely seated in the seal you are pushing out to minimise damage to it and just push through. The race will drive the seal out. Be careful not to drop the race. You should be able to re-use the seal if you're careful.

Get a big socket and place it inside the hub onto 1 of the bearings (depending whether you want to push out the front or rear seal). Then lightly tap the bearing and the seal should come out. You can then put the collar in.

I had to do this yesterday as i forgot to put the collar in and worked fine for me.
