Hi Guys,

Can anyone help me i have a mini, currenly with the standard side mounted radiator. I am wanting to change this to a front mounted rad, to increase the cooling. Has anyone done this or know how to do it/what it involves, thanks.

Also will a Clio Alloy rad do sufficent as an alternative ??

mk1 metro turbo rad is what you need as it has both the in and the out feed on the same side.. to be honest its not advisable to fit one for normal road use and you will need a constent air feed to keep it cool as its dificult to fit them with a fan unless you have a f/g front end where you have a bit more room if its a standard front end you would have to cut an amount of the front panel to fit and i think you have to move the altinator as well. one more thing mk1 metro turbo rads are getting difficult to get how of nowadays

Plenty of front mounted rads in clubbys here: http://www.theminifo...p;hl=thermostat
and here: http://www.theminifo...p;hl=thermostat
do you have a roundfront or clubby?

May I ask why?

For the sake of 'just doing it', it seems to be an awefull lot of effort for no real benefit?

Will not... Have you ever had a look at an MPI engine...?
There's almost everything different to get the space for the rad...

No oilfilter, alternator is heightened, subframe is wieder and the front mask has cutouts.
Plus it has no oilpipe and no dizzy.

And unless you have a racecar it's absolutely neccesary to have an electric fan as big as possible before or behind the rad!

I once planed converting to a front radiator.
But have to agree with Jammy: it's too much work for no difference.
Quite the converse: many MPIs I know have big issues with overheating!

But if you like to go that way:
Try it! You'll see what has to be changed.

There's way more air going through the side mounted rad as one would expect.
I.e. the mechanic fan gets useless after 25-30mph!
(But is verry effectiv up to that speed - replacing it with an electric fan is rather HARD if talking about performance!)

Cheers,
Jan
