Hello

I am about to replace my inner and outer sills (both sides)
Door steps (Both sides)
and my O/S scuttle, drivers floor and flitch pannel.
I have had a look through to find some more info on doing this and have noticed that people brace or put the doors on or somthing when carrying out the flitch repair.
Could someone please let me know in a bit of detail how i should go about this. i.e brace with what, where and so on.
I don't have a door to hand so that isn't an easy option.

Thanks

Jack

Thanks, so i need to either fit a door or tip mini on it's side?
I have a ramp and a pit availible so wasn't going to tip the shell over. and i also think i am missing a door.
if i get a door. do i just chuck it in to hold the shap or has it got to be a good fit.

Also (sorry) what are inter grips and where can i get some and do i need this por 15 stuff.
Cheers.
Jack

ok mighty mini jack's gone down a different route to me so this is my advice and reasons why i've done it my way.

i only used a door because i thought i was going to be cutting out my door stiffner panel, however this turned out not to be the case, if it was, i wanted the door in so i could fix it in place and then line my new panels up onto the car and into the orignal place of the old panels. that way nothing will be out of line and all should be ok.

if i get a door. do i just chuck it in to hold the shap or has it got to be a good fit.

You can't put just any door in as when the mini was made the shell was jigged to fit the doors they put on in the factory so if you don't have the original doors your going to be doing some adjustments

this might help with the doors

I braced my car across the door and cabin when i began this project as i was going to be taking panels off and moving the car on and off it's side alot (so i didn't want anything to twist) and beside it's been recommended on here by people. up to you what you do.

If it's just the flitch panel your removing you might get away with just drilling the spot welds out and taking the panel off without moving the stiffner panel.

Also (sorry) what are inter grips and where can i get some

as you can see from my build thread i've gone down the butt weld approach by using intergrips from frost restoration. intergrips. these help keep the panels flat and are amazing for butt welding! (that's my opinion)

and do i need this por 15 stuff.

mini's get rust full stop so i looked into preventing or at least prolonging the life of the shell/panels, por-15 was a brand i came across and they do different products. Up to you if you want to use it i just don't want these panels to rust again.

i chose rust preventative paint. RPP. as it seemed to be really good..... (i've still got bit's of it on my hands! damn stuff)

also i recomend por-15 metal ready for prepping a panel to be welded metal ready

any other problems just let either of us know that what we are here for :D

all the best

Dave

Top man Dave thanks :D
So if i dont move the shell around alot and just whip the panel out and replace i should get away with it. (my risk)
i will have to get my cash out for those inter grips then
Thanks again

you don't have to move the shell for it to twist, the shell could bend when you remove the panels (don't quote me on that)

it's up to you how you want to restore your shell i do this because i just want to be safe than sorry :D
