Austin Mini City E
1984

Hello, again.
I have just aquired my nw car and she is running very rough and tappety, im thinking timing and mixture, and hopefully just clearances.
But there are 2 weired things ive noticed,

1. There is no Overflow on th float bowl, even though its an HS4

2. The idle scrw wont lower my revs at all. - possible if timings out?

So just wondering if numbr 1 is normal, and if number 2 might just be timing and such

Idle screw adjustment problem

Check that the throttle cable isn't too tight
Check the choke isn't stuck open
Set the gap on the choke fast idle screw

Set your tappets and the carb before adjusting the timing, if your not sure where a problem lies only change one thing at a time or you may make things worse

Oh no the Screws going up, and throttle body is moving, its just not changing the revs, wich arnt stable anyway.
ther is a gap on the fast idle, so i know thats not stopping it from coming back.
Well i'll make some adjustments today and see what that does.

th car is also lurching, veering off to the right, and over some bumps she jumped to the side of the road, quite dangerously.
Im thinking tracking??

Check for broken engine mounts, ties bars and front subframe mounts

If you hold the butterfly closed by hand do the revs drop and is the choke fully closed?

Carb is normal, there is a vent - just no pipe.

Timing will effect idle, as will an air leak.

Get the ignition sorted first.

yer ive done a bit of work, found out shes running an AAB needle, i thought LCB should be AAU?
Also they were using some rediculously thin oil smelt like lemon juice, so i put 20W-50 in there, and i cleaned the piston as it was jamming, thats all fixed now, so shes running a bit better now.
Also noticed an Over run when switching her off...Defo sign of Timing nasties!
Fan belt was a bit loose so tightened that up.
Checked to see what is causing this HORRIBLE handling, All subframe mounts are new, Track rods are new, looks like the balljoints have been replaced very recently. Tie bar bushes are new, and lower arm bushes are still in good nick.
So looks like tracking, i guess it was when the wider wheels were put on??
