Hello,
I have a moan regarding my honesty and the DVLA, it all started when i decided to do the right thing before i put my mini on the road,
i had changed the colour from Brown to Old English White, my address has changed recently and more importantly my engine capacity has risen from 1098cc to 1293cc, so i set about informing them of the changes and even included the new engine number.....fair enough i thought after i sent them off, i even felt good about myself knowing i wasn't hiding anything.
But then came the letter saying that 'your new V5 will follow shortly with your new address and amendment to the colour' it also said that once the V5 had been recieved that i should then 'send it back to them with ammended engine details and PROOF that the engine size had increased in capacity, that PROOF had to be an Engineers report from a garage or insurance documentation!!'
The car isn't on the road for a start so not even insured and the engine was bought secondhand and modified by me, i was miffed that my honesty had been thrown back in my face, its not like i was saying the capacity had gone down so that maybe somehow i could cheat the system but i had actually told them that it had INCREASED!
So i rang them up, only to be unfortunate to have put up with a drool of an explanation basically repeating that i had to obtain a Report for the work carried out, i had already explained to her that i carried out the work, being a Qualified car Mechanic and spent the last 8 years maintained helicopters etc but this had no effect.
WHY WHY WHY can't we deal with people with common sense, people who know what they are doing, my car is still without correct documentation and i'm out of the country for the next 8 weeks with only the internet as communication.
These people need to take a little look out from behind there misty glasses and realise when someone is trying to do the "right" thing, i hope this hasn't bored anyone, maybe you could put your experiences with halfwits on the Forum also.
Kind Regards
adam the turd

honesty sucks in this country now if you own up to somthing they whack ya!
a few years ago when the sorn thing came out i had a bad expierience with them too.
we had an old van that we used for only 8 weeks per year for about 15 years. i used to tax it for 6 months then after the 8 weeks of work, it was parked up until the following year, i even used to let the tax run out without claiming it back.
Then one day i heard the ad on the radio about the SORN coming in . it was a month after it had started, so i phoned up dvla and told them of the story about how we only use it for 2 months and its parked off road etc the woman explained what i needed to do in future and i declaired it sorned there and then. a month later i got a 25quid fine for not sorning it sooner!!
i got them back by reclaiming the 3 months tax that i wouldnt normally bother with, and have done ever since. so they LOSE!!!!
if you are honest you are an easy taget for blair and browns stelph tax army.

I have had a similar experience with DVLA, namely when I got my car it had had a clubman flip front added and a 1275 engine, on the v5 form it said the car was a mini city 1000E. so I decided I wanted the v5 to say clubman!
I informed them of the new front and the larger engine, to which they required the engine number and the chasse number etc. I took pictures and sent them and then waited 5 weeks and got no reply. When I called them, they couldnt find the file but as I had copies of everythig they couldnt deny that I had sent it all. They then wanted to charge me for a lost v5 document to which I explined they had no chance, after some back and forth they found the file but now insisted I have the car inspected by their people. I took the car down for inspection only to be told by the inspector he had no idea why they made me bring the car, I was clearly the same car etc.
bottom line, the car was re-registerd as an austin! mini clubman 1275gt.
I know it isnt right but thats what it says on the v5 form and I am happy with that.

I can't beleive how ignorant these jumped up clerks are, they must start the working day by betting one another how much they can screw the next 'honest' punter over, i even checked the website as i wanted to take it further and speak to someone else but.....you guessed it, no complaints department, i'm sure we're paying for a service?!
anyway, good luck to everyone, hopefully i can get this sorted in the next 2 months or so!
