Hello Sweeties.

I'm using paraffin to give the cooper's engine bay a quick spruce up & it's so effective that I've started to use it on the GT's parts too.

Ting is, it leaves an oily film behind. But this makes everything nice and shiny under the bonnet.

I've just cleaned the GT's carburettor & finally cleared the jet. Will the residue from the paraffin cause a problem in the carb? Do I need to get rid of it with brake cleaner before I refit it? Or will it be OK as it is?

No the paraffin residue inside the carb will be washed away by the fuel mixture. I would be a bit worried if any external parts were washed in paraffin though as the oily film will attract dust and dirt.

Residue on external parts can be cleaned off with a quick wipe with petrol.

Parafin residue is a wax. As above it will attract junk so clean the ignition system plastics after using it. It won't harm any metal though. As for the carb, personally I would wash the jet over with meths to stop it sticking in the jet tube and to prevent it clogging. The outside of the jet should not be exposed to fuel so where it runs through the tube the wax may cause problems. I would do the same with the float valve and the various linkages.
