Hi guys,

My mini seems to run fairly 'hot'. I have a TIM capiliary water temp gauge fitted and the car runs at about 85deg, but after about 15mins driving it will hover around 90-95 (i know 'modern' cars run at 90 deg) and sometimes even up to 98deg!

Now i don't really think this is a problem as such but i'd be happier if i could cool the engine a bit more, would fitting two of the metal fans crossed over (to make a 4-blade) which i have read about prehaps give me greater cooling?

Cheers,

Matt.

Probably not, you'd be better getting a bigger/better rad

If you do go down the 2A 997 route you also should fit the stiffener (part no 2A 803) which Mini Spares don't seem to list

I have the standard plastic 11 blade plastic fan in at the moment, although i have just seen the 6 blade metal fan on minispares that it says is for use in "hot climates" - maybe this is the way to go?

Yes thermostat, head gasket and water pump all changed by myself straight after buying the car, i'm confident there is no problem there. I *think* i may have a slight issue with the heater hose/bottom hose connection, there is some evidence of a leakage there showing up as white residue on the hose (like the limescaly kak you get around leaky thermostat housings). I will be upgrading to the silicone hoses eventually though!

Cheers,

Matt.

Did you put the fan on the right way round when you changed the waterpump??

Yes, i checked and double checked as i heard that this was a common error. The fan actually had an inscription in the plastic stating "Engine Side" ;-)

Any other ideas guys, could it be due to a small leak somewhere that means the system is not fully sealed? I have pressure though when removing the rad cap 'hot' and she doesnt lose massive amounts of water, about a cupfull on a 400miles round trip. Maybe there is a slight leak (like the one i *think* i have - mentioned earlier) that is causing small levels of water loss but not enought to reduce pressure in the system?

Help so far greatly appreciated though guys, keep it coming! :P

Matt.

Probably down to a partially clogged rad and water system?
Have you tryed back flushing the rad etc>?

I haven't flushed it with a hosepipe, but i did fill up, run it and then empty it all out again and repeated this about 3 or 4 times after i first did the HG work. I forgot to mention that the rad is a brand new standard 4-core rad from minispares. On this topic, i have a feeling my heater valve is siezed, would this casue water to not circulate properly around the system?

Matt.
