right slight problem.. last sunday was driving over to my girlfriends house and i decided to put my foot down, down a duel carriage way went pretty well but as i let off the accelerator i got a really bad knocking noise very loud when i accelerated. Now this has not gone but has not effected the performance of the car but i have been taking it easy just incase.

been told it could be the big end's gone? but could it be the oil pump that has gone?

when i had it on the rolling road i was told it was very rattly and that the bearings in the gearbox were starting to wear.

help? :dontgetit:

yea, that pretty much sounds like its somethin pretty damn bad

You must stop driving your car!! If its a gearbox bearing then by driving it more it could result in the remainder of the bearings coming loose and into your gears which will proceed to explode and send bits of metal all over your engine scrapping it completely. If its a big end or a main, you could easily scrap your crank and rods... if a rod lets go completely then say goodbye to everything!

OK, so thats a bit of a horror story but it is a very real possibility, take your car to a reputable garage (preferably mini orientated) and get it looked at if you do not want to do the work yourself (engine out, split and rebuild).

You never know, you could be lucky and its something of nothing!

it is a mutliple tap when you have the hammer down or it is just one big tap when your on power and one when you back off again?

First thing to do is to check over your floor mounts and engine steadies etc, eliminate all possibilities of knocking before condemning the engine/box with a bearing fail or another such problem

Does sound pretty bad, but could be any number of things until you've inspected the simpler possibilities.

As retro has said check your subby mounts, if its just one loud knock and not an ongoing one then its probably that whats the cause.

Paul.

well it managed 45bhp at the wheels but he said that the gearbox bearings were starting to wear and did say something about the bottom end too.. obviously went a bit quicker than expected
