Ok The car: 1986 City e - 998cc

My clutch slips but not when you'd expect it really. In 1st, 2nd and 3rd i can floor it and the clutch won't slip at all but then in 4th at high revs - high speed the clutch will slip and the revs will just zip right round without the car accelerating.

This is only really a problem on motorways. The clutch will slip in third going up the sliproad - Making it difficult to get up to speed, i just have to sit at about 40mph until i can get to the top. Then i change to fourth put my foot down and it'll be fine up to about 60, then past that the revs will just rise by about 1000rpm more than they should.

Even after a 30 second stint on the motorway all you can smell is burning clutch.

Is there anything i can try and adjust first?

If not what do i need to replace? Is it just the plate or a full clutch kit i need? (£££)

Thanks :shifty:

Sorry but it would seem to me that your clutch maybe knacked!!

When I'm buying a used car, the test for a knacked clutch is to put the car in 4th gear and dump the clutch, if the car stalls the clutch is ok, if it slips then the clutch is on its way out

Not leaking oil in to the housing? look at the hole in the bottom.

Is it Verto or Pre verto. With Pre verto you could look at the return stop but I doubt it's to blame. I'd fit a new pressure and friction plate, for the hassle it's not worth penny pinching.

imo you'd be best of taking the engine out,
this should only take 30 mins max, then its so much easyer to do,
although i can be done with it in i dont recomened it
