Re-shelling

I have an Austin 1968, but the shell is long gone. I've most other parts but want to build a minus, change the engine, running gear, brakes, interior etc. This to me is a new car, will it become a Q plate (AAARRRGGGHHHH).
I notice people who've built cars over a long time as a rolling project keep the reg, even if its a mk1 cooper with internal hinges, winding windows etc.
I'm sure this may have been posted before but whats everyones view, and the laws view?

When rebuilding a vehicle, and wish to retain the original identity at least TWO of the following; Suspension (front & back); Axles (both); Transmission; Steering Assembly and Engine AND the original unmodified bodyshell (or chassis) or and I quote....
A new chassis or monocoque bodyshell of the same specification as the original supported by evidence from the dealer/manufacturer (e.g. receipt)
The ONLY shell which falls into this bracket is a new shell from Heratage
If a second-hand chassis/monocoque bodyshell is used, the vehicle must pass a ESVA/SVA test after which a "Q" prefix registration number will be allocated.
Now the Minus could be considered a kit-car, for which the rules are slightly different....
A vehicle will retain its donor registration mark if either the original unmodified chassis or unaltered monocoque bodyshell and two other major components are used.
If a new monocoque bodyshell or chassis from a specialist kit manufacturer is used (or an altered chassis/bodyshell from an existing vehicle) together with two major components from a donor vehicle, an age related mark will be assigned. The mark will be based on the age of the donor vehicle. An ESVA/SVA/MSVA test will be required to register the vehicle.
Where there are insufficient parts from a donor vehicle or in cases where the original registration mark is unknown, an ESVA/SVA/MSVAcertificate will be required to register the vehicle and a 'Q' prefix registration number will be allocated.
So using the minus as a kit you could get an age related plate, but your issue will then be getting it through an SVA test...Not the simplest thing in the world.
