Evening,

My amp has three power connectors, REM, GND, BAT. GND and BAT are fine, earth and battery supply. REM is the remote power supply from the head unit according to google. I don't have a head unit, just an iPod.

Am I right in thinking that the REM is basically a relay so that the amp is on whent he head unit is on and off when its off? So do I just need to send it the same 12v feed from the battery as goes to the BAT terminal? That power supply is switched through the dash anyway, so is effectively the same as REM anyway.

Cheers in advance!

Paul.

Yeah, it just needs +12v to switch the amp on.
Feed it from any +12v switched supply.

The remote live will need to be switched, if you simply link the battery connection over then the amp will be on all the time.

Not good for the amp or your battery.

If you're using an Ipod then I would think you would need to connect the "rem" to either an ignition live or a seperate switch.

The bat connection really should be connected straight to the battery and not through an existing switch

I see, I see. Its not a massively loud amp and is powering four average sized speakers and i don't go in for all this loud noise that the Corsa boys seem to be in to, so I can't see it drawing too much power for my switches. As I said, the power feed to the amp is already switched, so a small cable linking the two connectors should do the job. If the switch gets hot I'll wire the amp straight to the battery, but I can't see that happening.

Actually, it might be easier to swap the existing wire to the REM contact and run a wire through to the battery as it's only ont he otherside of the bulkhead than to fiddle about fitting a very short length of wire betweent he two contacts.

it wont work if you just connect the 12v to the remote on the amp. you need to connect the 12v to th 12v on the amp then use a small bit of wire to put on the 12v screw on the amp to the rem screw on the amp.

and it really needs a switch on the 12v. dont wire the amp to the battery with out a on and off switch.:shifty:

Sorry, you've misunderstood, or I haven't explained properly, I meant to run a short wire from the BAT terminal to the REM terminal so the switched 12v goes to both at the same time, exactly as described. If I do that, both 12v feeds to the amp are switched through the same switch and the amp is completely dead when the switch is off, or when the ignition is turned off.
