hello there.

Was just wondering if anyone would know the lengths needed for a metro turbo in a mini, fuel lines that is. Being lazy i know but if someone happens to know the approx lengths i can just get the lines the right size and not have to start fitting line ends etc.

cheers

hey,
. if you order 3 meters of 5/16 for th fuel line, and 3 meters of 3/8 for the return line, that will give you enough fuel line to go from tank to engine via fuel pump obviously, and the return is long enough to go from engine to tank, bu you have to fabricate a connection into the top of the tank. Remember to purge the tank before you weld it, a good way, and fastest is to fill it with water, drain it out, then set it alite, to rid of the fumes,
anything else just ask.

Using a MPI tank you get the pump and a return included, so no welding or external pumps.

I would fit copper 8mm solid fuel lines in replacement of the existing fuel line under the car. A long lenegth of braided flexible pipe is more likely to become loose and snag etc. Then fit braided fuel lines between the tank and the copper pipe and the copper pipe and the engine.

Jobs a gud un.

Yep, use copper fuel pipe & just use hosing on the ends. Remember you want 8mm ID for the return, not OD.

im building a turbo project .
my first one, and im using 3/8 return line, but ive also used 3/8 from tank to pump, the pump is lower that the tank it underneith the back seat, the inlet to my pump is 12mm, so what i did as i cant get holf of 12mm fuel hose i, i put the 3/8 fuel hose is boiling water, then stretch it to fit, the on the tank side im goin to mount a 12 mm connection next to the original, block off the original, the strtch the hose for that end to, question to Phil, is this ok, im using the 8mm feed to the regulater, then to the plunum and carb im keeping the original pipes that were on it, also i was wondering if you could tell me how to mount my turbo boost guage, ive got a t piece to put in and im not sure where to put it, . thanks guys,

Boost gauge would be best plumbed in to the inlet manifold. I believe you can just plumb the fuel return in to the feed to the pump with a Tee. would also be a better way of adapting the various hose bores. I think you'd be better off with feed and return lines of the same bore. Different bores across the regulator could fool it in to mis-setting the pressure fed to the carb? I'm also not to sure the actual pipe bore is that critical, there are plenty of restrictions in the lines anyway.

thanks for the reply,
so could i plumb it into the regulater to plunum hose? i wish id of thought of T-ing the return into the tank to pump hose, before i moded my tank, oh well never mind, the connection i made is decent . i thought that using the 3/8 as a return was a good idea as larger the ID lower the resistance.

Sorry, I kind of assumed you meant to use a larger supply pipe, even if a larger return caused you problems it'd be easy to rig up a restrictor for it.

Plumbing a boost gauge upstream of the throttle will work but it won't show engine vacuum if it's that type of gauge.

Why would a larger return possibly cause a problem ? A big return is exactly what you want, it should be as little restriction as possible.

thank you all for being so helpful,
the guage ive got is boost and vacuum, so where would be the best place? im hoping the weather will cheer up and stop raining so i can get her painted, candy apple red, white roof, white stripes.also, where ive stretched the 3/8 hose to fit to the 12mm input on the pump,is this gonna be ok. im worried that gravity alone wont be able to flow enough fuel into the pump to stop it running dry, oh yea, i need to wire the pump into the fuse box, i dont suppose anyone knows wich fuse is the ignition? as i dont wont the pump to be live all the time, only when the ignition is on, Obviosly. ill have to post some picys and see what you think.
thanks again guys.
sam.

on mine i modded my fueltank with a 12mmID outlet pipe and a 10mmID return pipe, i'm running 8mmOD pip from the pump to the fuel pressure regulator and 10mmOD copper pipe on the return, i have run the pipes through the car and held them into place with P clips. the copper pipe is about £15 for a reel in B&Q. I'm also running a fuel filter off of a Rover between the tank and the pump.
