Putting a stage 3 head on my engine today, all going swimmingly until it came to putting to pushrods back in. 7 of them have gone in fine and dropped to their "normal" positions, however one (furthest away pushrod to the radiator) is refusing to go in. Any ideas what I can do?

Only thing I can think if is when you removed the push rod originally it pulled the cam follower up with it which has then fallen off and blocked the hole ! If your engine is a 998 then you can simply take the tappet cover off the back and have a look. If its a 1275 then get a torch and look down the hole to see what you can see. You might be able to fiddle it back into position with a screwdriver and / or a magnet.

Tip for next time....twist the pushrod first to break the possible seal with the cam follower before pulling it out.

how far will it go? could it be that it is sat on the top of the cam lobe?

Other thing it could be is that the head gasket still has the cut-out for the pushrod in situ. OK if it's 998 - stinker if it's 1275.

Bingo! It was the cam follower, it had fallen over - the suction must have lifted it off.
All sorted now though! Now for the annoying bit - exhaust.

Thanks.
