Ive allready posted a similar post a while back and peeps were very helpful :(
Just wondered though my car is a 1995 sprite surely by then they all had stereos?
Maybe the old dear who originally bought it asked for it to be left out as it didnt fit with her religeous beliefs?
cant believe no stereo just under 13 years ago?

Enough of that anyhow i also cant believe rover would make a seperate loom for the sprite, one for the mayfair and one for cooper, one for radio one without?

So its pretty certain that their was one loom for all?
So has anybody taken apart a 1995 ish rover mini and where will i find the radio plugs hidden?

Are they iso standard plugs or are they just for rover original radios?
If so is there an adaptor lead or something?

anybody got a rover radio to see what kind of plugs they are?

Any help would be very welcome

i want to fit one of these to boris

first thing to check is there an aerial anywhere? around that age they were fitted to the N/S wing. Is there an aerial or a blanking plug?

I cant believe rover would of made a one off wiring loom for cars without a radio though thats why i want to know if theres a blanked off plug lurking somewhere?

http://drcwww.uvt.nl...nual/wiring.htm

Purple, light green, black for power and earth,
yellow/purple, yellow/black & orange/purple, orange/black for the speakers.

On the, slightly older, Metro loom I'm using all 7 wires are in the same black multipin connector - just the same type as used throughout the loom.

You would think this but the basic loom at the front is actually quite small (compared with modern cars)

Are there any wires near where the rear speakers should go?

If not id suggest the loom doesn't have the take off.

Ive looked at my haynes manual and it looks like the radio is feed out of the ignition/starter switch and should be connected to the light green/white wire. If you can trace this to where the radio would normally be fitted and see if anything exists (thought this may only give you an switched live for your head unit which would mean you would loose all your radio station presets everytime you turned your engine off.

To save all that peeing about id wire it in from scratch personally by running new supply wires from the fuse box (which has spare permanent live terminals and switched live terminals) and then by running the cables you get with your speaker to the back under the carpet and then connecting your aerial up. im using a glass mounted electric aeria which is pretty good and that way you dont run the risk of having your wheel catch the telescopic type when its down.
hope this helps

To my knowledge the radio loom was always an additional sub harness on all late '80s - early '90s Minis up until the MPi was introduced. Look under the steering column, the radio harness was connected to the front loom through a small rectangular black plug with three terminals, under the column near the stalk connectors.

If you don't have the radio loom in the car it is still available from X part dealers in the radio install kit.

Thanx Dan
i will check later to see if i can find the plug and i have emailed "X PART" to ask how much said kit is etc?
Ive just been waiting for a strait answer yours is the best ive had upto now :shy:

Im figuring from what you have said if i just unscrew the steering coloumn shroud there sould be a 3 pin block in there just waiting?

If thats the case maybe just maybe i might even be able to find another car thats being broken with a radio allready in there that i can nick the radio harness bit from?

Just one thing does this radio install kit have an iso plug or a specialist rover radio connection at the end that plugs into the stereo?

Im guessing if its the latter ive then gotta buy yet another adaptor?

Anybody got any pictures of what im actually looking for under the steering coloumn?
