You can offer advice & empathy far less publicly than here. That's my point.

*wanders off muttering & shaking her head*

I assume then you mean via PM, which is fine of course, but I was actually wanting to get the message across to more than just Wolfy which is not to consider it a stigma of some kind. As many are aware, I'm no spring chicken, and given my son's situation I think it is probably a reasonable idea to try to get that message across to a wider younger audience. Of course, I could have started my own thread several weeks ago saying 'don't be shy about it' but it was this thread which prompted me into action. >_<

Thank you Bean.
I think I may just have lost my patience with the resident(s) of this nut-house. >_<

Frankly, I don't think offering advice out to more than just one person quite qualifies me as a nutter, thanks very much. ;)

Nah, you're right, it'll be all the other little ticks in all the other little boxes that gives you that qualification.

Seriously, I am not having a go at anybody here, ffs.

Right. I'm outta here. If I've offended anybody then I am heartily sorry. It's just bad communication.

Just in case my post wasn't taken in the way it was intended, I didn't want to imply that those who admit to having depression are all attention seeking. I'd bet that 99% of those don't want any attention.

I'm probably just making my hole deeper here.

Many (if not all) of the responses in this thread contain truths of one kind or another. The most important thing is in my mind (finds bold to emphasise point - NOT to shout) is - SEEK HELP

I ended up in a VERY bad state and it was only the attentions of a very good friend that stopped me dissapearing itno the water at the bottom of that well so to speak. It doesn't matter initially where that help comes from, but often a doctors involvement is no bad thing as some situations are worse than others, and a degree of monitoring may be required.

Some people say that tablets will turn you into someone or something you weren't. Well that can happen, and in that circumstance there are different drugs, so it may be that a different type could be needed (it was with me), but in lighter varieties of depression St. John's Wort may help but still seek the advice of either a doctor or pharmacist - although it is a 'herb' , it can still have side effects and should not be taken by people with some pre existing conditions.

Emma (hoping I've got the right balance here :S )

PS - DON'T drink alcohol, it's a depressant in itself!

Maybe you should start contributing to a topic once in a while then, instead of posting comments like the above, or "spoon feeding", "BAC", etc.

well, to be honest id rather not talk about my problems, which i do have. Its not exactly something you can turn on like "ooh im going to be happy today" even you should be able to figure that, anyone should be able to...its fair to say at some point some one has felt bad for some reason and you dont just sit there say "never mind....know what im going to be happy" >_<
