Metro leccy dizzy. standerd non ballast coil and new plugs. decent leads.
really weak spark, the engine will not even fire up.
how often does the module on the side of the distributer go wrong?
what else could be wrong?

Before you give up on your module, what else has changed recently? Have you replaced the spark plugs, the plug wires, or the plug wire terminals?
Generally, one (1) of those components needs to be resistive to suppress radio noise. It's very common to forget and use resistor plugs with resistive wires. If you make your own plug wires you can also use the wrong terminals (some have resistors built in). Measure the resistance between the distributor cap end of the plug wires and the center (firing) tip of the spark plugs. You should find something perhaps around 5000-7000 Ohms. If you find something over 10,000 Ohms you may need to replace one of the three components I mentioned as the total series resistance will be high enough to weaken the spark.

think i got mine from partco a few years back. If you take a trip to the breakers you will find them on all sorts of vehicles - range rovers, maestros, both A and k series engined metros.
Ive had a few problems in the past with them, now put it down to iffy wiring.
also - resisted leads with resisted plugs lead to a weaker spark, might be worth checking.

ive tried all the components it had before i took it apart, i had all new stuff to fit any way so i fitted them after it wouldnt start. im guessing it could just be coincidence it died the day i took it apart?
i didnt know k series metros shared the same module. ill try that one evening.

You can get a module from Somerford Minis.

maybe ive read ur post a bit wrong; but shouldn't you have the electronic ignition coil rather than a standard type?
are you getting power to the coil?
are the wires properly connected into the plug that goes into the module?
