I sure hope you're joking....

Try having your car keyed.

Yes, I was joking..

What would be a reasonable explanation be for parking across someones drive? :D

Not sure of the legality of it, but is one able to attach a privately bought wheel clamp? Maybe put a note under with a number for them to call for release of their vehicle?

If the car is parked on a public highway (that includes the pavement between your drive and the road) then no you can't, If the car was on private land and there is suitable notice around then yes you can. (or so I have been led to believe)

what you have to do by law , is if it is over the dropped kurb, thus preventing you to gain access to your driveway then you can ask the police to send out a parking warden to assess whether the vehicle is breaking a parking regulation . for example my mini is clearly in violation of this parking law

then if it is deamed that they are, then the vehicle will be ticketed or in an extreme case will be clamped and lifted and taken to the pound.

The best way is to go round the houses and find out whose car it is and , would they mind moving it. I know its very very annoying when they do this ( i have 5 cars a week parked on my dropped curb, and im on first names terms with beth the parking warden) but be polite as best you can after all the last thing you want on your car is a note telling you to go where the sun doesn't shine.

best bet is if youve got the money and space widen your drive like i did, it went from this :

Breaking down? As it goes it happened to me a few months back (ran out of petrol ), I managed to push the lightweight Minus out the way, but if the car had an LSD, stuck brakes, weighed several tonnes, wheel fallen off, etc.

drive your car as if you were to drive in to your drive way and as you get near to the vehicle in question press the horn until it gets moved

will defiantly get drivers attention and all the neighbours attention as he/she does the walk of shame to his/her car to move it

Apart from knocking on neighbours doors you done the better thing with the note on the windscreen, thats the best way.

Doesn't sound like it was done deliberately as parking right across your drive would of been deliberate, sounds like they at least tried to give you some room, allbeit not enough as you cant use it!

Someone parked and blocked up the alleyway near me deliberately, so a kind note was left along the lines of 'If you block this regularly used alleyway again a nice brick will be resting on your passenger seat, thats not a threat that is a promise'

I've seen him park, never blocks the alleyway now though......

If you get someone completely block your drive, unless you know who it is use the note method again, use my words if your not in the mood, but then they'll know where you live, so it might need to be toned down.....

But if it was me who had broken down and had to leave the car I would have gone and knocked on the persons door and explained the situation and also apologised. If they werent in, Id leave them a note also explaining what had happened. :(

If they'd broken down surely they wouldn't just leave the car there without telling anyone nearby? Like Sazal said it might be a good idea to go to the house and explain the situation.

Usually a few reasonable words would suffice but seeing as though the driver can't be found then I'd give the police a ring and see what they say.

With the priorities that seem to be in force these days I wouldn't be surprised if they despatched a warden within the hour whilst at the same time down the road a robber gets away scot-free...

This happens all the time to me because we live across the road from a school. It some times happens twice a day usally by the same person we've had words with the driver but it still happens.

About 2 years ago it happened and my mums boyfriend (ex) was blocked from getting on the drive. Their was cars park on both sides of the road cars behind him and in front so he parked his car in the middle of the road went to the car blocking the drive and the window was open so he lent in and let the handbreak off and rolled it out the way it ended partly on the road but not blockin other drivers when he did this the women was walking her kids down and she saw him do it and didnt say anything.

Another time when he lived in scotland he worked for a construct company and they was puttin new lamp post in and their was a car parked on the street when they wasnt ment to be and it was stopping them working so he tryed knocking on the houses around it nobody knew who's the car was so the put a chain on the tow bit and pulled it up the street with the handbreak on with dumper truck.

im shure that if you cant get on/off your own drive then the police can interveen or tow away the van for obstruction... but that may be a bit extreme!

nothing is too extreme in these circumstances lol, i live on a private road that i need a permit for, and everyday people park on my street to go to work in town instead of paying, numerous times ive had a tickets as my permit wasnt showing and when i see the traffic warden he says "we dont deal with that road any more"

its like

grrrrr! wheres the justice
