if i used hammerite with a brush in the gutter, then sanded it back and a coat of the proper colour paint, would this work? the reason im thinking this is because its difficult to get the angle with the can to get on the inner side of the gutter without the primer splatting.

if this is silly, whats the best technique to use regarding the primer?

Hammerite is silicone based,.. as long as you can find a paint that will lay over it nicely and not react then it's a good idea.

The hardest bit to paint on the gutter is the folded edge of the seam,... which is covered by the roof trim anyway,.. so why not do things the other way round,... Paint the car up and then once it's all done, blat around the hard to get areas with the brush and hammerite (or the proper paint thinned down),.. then pop your trim on.
