Weve hit a bit of a bad patch with boris, everything seems to be going wrong with him
yesterday we got him new tyres and today we got up to find one flat dispite being brand new :dozing:
Then after getting that sorted at the tyre place, his automatic gearbox slipped a gear on a busy roundabout by this point my partner was livid, she calls him "The Money Pit" :dozing: She said shes had enough and he has to go

Thing is the tyre wasnt boris,s fault and i dont reckon the gearbox is knernackered ive had autos before and you have to drive them a certain way,you just have to learn their little idiosynchrocies, yup he slips the odd time for me too if you try to floor him when some jerks tailgating you but generally hes fine :)

To add to that we want to put a stereo in him im a bit wary of wiring it and audio places want too much ^_^
We found out you can get a plug in harness for the loom for a stereo but its really expensive :(

So upto now everythings gone wrong today but i think the gearbox will be fine, the radio can be wired in one way or another and the tyre was just a faulty valve or something?

I know she never had any problems with her modern car and i feel guilty because i pusuaded her to get a mini but i dont want boris to go

I luv my partner more than anything and shes more important to me than any car of course but id just luv others to answer my post so when she reads it she will get some encouragement and know boris will be fine its just teething problems ;)

Please please reply to this post and save boris from being sold :(

Please feel free to read my project thread "Click on the banner below"and youll see all weve been through with boris dispite only having him a couple of weeks but i think it would be soo sad to give up on him now :(

My girlfriend is the same - we go through the whole ' we're selling roberta, just costing too much' but as soon as I fix her or get her fixed, my partner drives her about and realises it's just so much fun. Then forgets all about the money and headache. Having a mini is amazing, even the little flashes of light when you go past a fellow mini driver, bring a smile to your face.

Don't let Boris go - you'll regret it. Plus you'll learn so much about cars if you start to try and fix him yourself. I'm no mechanic or even good with cars before we got Roberta, now I'm fixing bits and bobs myself.

you sell it, everytime you see a mini on the road you will regret it, because in the back of your mind youl be thinking, theyd of flashed at me or waved at me, but im in a mainstream car, so i just have to trundle along like everyone else!

My minis always going wrong, my dad keeps saying that i should sell it, but i just remind him of his youth, and how he used to have fun in minis, and he will banana right up, because they are just so much fin to drive, and its a great community, look at the guys and girls on this site, theres loads of them! and they all have the same intrest as you, and they all support and encourage you, look at all the comments you got on your other thread with the revamp of the rust patches and paint!

Stand your ground! keep borris!

Nooo. you can't sell Boris. It's all part of owning a mini. Just register with the RAC or AA or Greenflag for the low times and you'll be ok. Anyway when something goes wrong and it gets repaired it just means there's one less thing to fail next time. The battery could have been dodgy HONEST!!! I'm a vicar, would I lie.(I'm not actually but as has already been said were a community and you know what they say about care in the community). Were also a minority.
Keep the mini and live the dream. Yahooooooo. Just gotta go get my medicine now..goodnight!!!!

well i just had a quick flick through your project thread (OK, i didnt read it all) and the opinion i have come to is...

you have very recently bought a good condition mini that has maybe not been given the full attention that it needed for the last few years, probably due to the lack of miles its done.

so you have spent the last few weeks sorting out quite a few little problems, got new tyres, done a few cosmetic fixes and its all seemed like a bit of hard work, but i bet you have enjoyed it ?????

have you been to a show yet ??? have you just been out and enjoyed the car ???? probably not. have you had the pleasure of just spending money on something you dont really need but just want because it makes the car look good??.... no

lets be realistic, if your other half thought you would just buy a mini and everything would be plain sailing, then they were wrong. you haven't had the winter troubles with the naff heater and the steamy windows yet !!!! and as for the new paint not being perfect, dont fool yourself into thinking anyone else is different :dozing:

owning a mini is full of fun times and bad times, but you soon become attached to them and they become one of the family. its far to early to think about getting rid, better the devil you know and all that.

get rid and you will regret it. or it will put you off minis for life. keep it and you will get a few months when everything goes fine and you will love it.

dont forget, they are old cars made to a very old design, they do need constant pampering but they are worth it.

i offer you a couple of links to my cars "project threads". have a look, after a good deal of work spent on sorting the body work, putting him back to standard, I'm still having little problems now and again, i spent all day Sunday on him under a plastic sheet in the rain and enjoyed every minute of it. hes five different shades of red, the doors are rotten, the carpets naff but i wouldn't sell him ever. i have sold him once before, regretted it and bought him back...

anyway, you cant say you haven't had some good replies now

Thanx Anorak
ill never have enough replies but its getting there! :)
Ill have to show her your reply it says everything ive allready said, and you dont have to convince me this is the second mini ive had,i used to have a 77 clubman and i missed him everyday after selling him

to be honest i know i can sort the paint, she says its her insecuritys in herself but it does kinda make me feel *rubbish* :dozing:
I know the colour match is very good its just needs moping to bring a shine to it so problem solved :)

The tyre seems ok this morning but my other half suggested if all else fails and it deflates again get the tyre place to swop the new tyre onto the spare wheel rim,it may be a faulty rim?

radio? erm well i wanted a hook up harness apparently they make them to just plug into the steering column loom but the rover parts dealers aint got a clue and there too too expensive for what they are?

If only i could get another SPI thats midway through rebuild with a radio to copy off and i could then do it myself?

Final prob the gearbox :dozing:
It started slipping but i seem to be able to control the slips much better than she can?
My clubbys box slipped too from time to time it was just an idiosyncrasie of it methinks?

There could be light at the end of the tunnel though if i can find an autobox specialist local the engine and box are under warranty for three months ^_^
Weve only had him one month ;)

Ill certainly have a look at you threads, and i saw you in the mag last month
When i see your green cooper i realise weve had it easy as far as a rebuild goes :(
Though im certain your cooper will look fab when its finished

Thanks for the reply :(

yeah, the green ones my project but on top of that i have to keep the red one on the road and usable. its constant tweaking but worth it.

actually im considering putting the green one on hold for a bit, putting it under a cover and saving up to sort it out next summer. there's lots to do but its too good to sell and i know that once its done, it will be a bargain
