okay so i had a trial fit with the exhaust using a couple of jacks to move it into position and see what it was like... I now need to find a bit of reducer pipe which goes from 2inch to 2.5inch in bore and stretches around 5-10inches long to fit from the link pipe to the back box.

Posted Image

still had to be quite beasty! its two motorbike exhausts fitted together and then the tailpipes are slashcut. Havent had the car running to hear it yet tho haha.

Next up i trial fitted the arches with a bit of tape, these were new ones from huddersfield mini spares. They had small loops rather than the screws fitted in the arch, so this should be a bit better than the old style ones.

Posted Image

The seem to look quite good with the arches but i will need to make a few adustments like cutting for the seam strips etc.

Then as i had got the new adjustable bottom arms, i decided to put them on and fiddle around. It was great fun to fiddle around with.
here is a picture of something i have managed to do haha

Posted Image

Next up to do is to finish the body work and fit all the arches! its almost done yayy

i have started to connect up all of my gauges, i havent quite finished it yet, so they havent got the backlight nor have i wired all the sensors into it yet either, altho the sensors are in the engine.

The car hasnt been started yet so i cannot test for any leaks and to make sure they work properly but the oil pressure sensor is getting a reading at the moment but it isnt earthed yet.

Here is a video of them being turned on with the second click on the ignition.

View My Video

I havent finished wiring and fitting but they will be going on a pod on top of the dashboard, i was fiddling around with the pod in my sisters car to work out where i can put it and decided on how it is below.

its getting there now!

okay so since I was last on here I have made a little progress...

I have since got a switch panel which has pretty much everything I wanted however it does have a heated rear screen switch which I wont need with my perspex windows I now have for it but I will use it for something else, here is a picture of it...

Posted Image

and the perspex windows
Posted Image

I have also got some small rectangle spot lamps, which I am going to mount either behind the grille or under the bumper, and as the take H3 bulbs I'm going to put in all weather bulbs which are the iridium yellow style to match my headlights. Which i have fitted to my daily drive and have really made a difference especially in the snow!

Posted Image

The bodywork is all done and the car is rubbed down, however we are really busy at work so spraying it has been put off for a while, altho it has allowed me to catch up with some repairs on my daily drive! Cut the wheelarches to size and re lipped them so that I can have full lock before my wheels hit the arch haha

the car as it stands atm
Posted Image

The engine is coming back out within the next few weeks, I have purchased a new worm and pinion to match the ratio between my wheels and the TPM of the speedo with my diff so I can have some idea of what I'm doing. At the same time I'm using it as an excuse to install a 296 cam and get my cooper S cylinder head and install some duplex timing gear and maybe rebuild my diff depending on my funds!

On the list still to do is....

  • work out where to put my switch panel
  • do the engine and box work
  • get it in primer
  • get it sprayed
  • buy black front bumper
  • buy morris cooper grille
  • decide if I wana cut a hole in the bonnet
  • fit everything up
  • set up the suspension
  • partly tune it
  • get it rolling road tuned
  • get it mot'd
  • get insured
  • get tax
  • get on the road!

Not much then!

that switch panel was actually made for someone as a one off by an engineer with an etching tool and the guy who had it was stripping his mini to sell so i bought it off him. it was actually for sale on pistonheads under mini parts so its always worth looking on there for bits but as i said its a one off!
Wouldnt be too hard to make tho!

Well the dashboard wont be one of those red and black ones thats my sisters one and i dont want to cut through the nice charcoal black minispares on i have so i need to decide what i doing with it still.
I was tempted to get a fiberglass one so i can house the the switch panel but then its not very different so i think im going to make one out of wood i had started on one before as a template its just waiting to be finished like most things! It will be something i get stuck into nearer the end of the project!

okay quick update on the car its all stripped out interior wise so that it can be primed and painted inside to match its ned exterior colour so it looks all pretty.
The engine is out of the car and at my house as i am installing my new cam and other bits and bobs on it.

Iv been busy doing an engine and subfram swap on a friends mini this week so i havent had much time for my car. And on wednesday i hit my thumb with a club hammer which rather hurt so i was limited to what i have been able to do as its unbelievable how much you use your thumb for thesedays even on your opposite hand haha!

Hopefully in weeks to come i will be able to do some more work on it and finish my mates one off. Lord knows my mum wants the engines out the way and the mini off the drive haha

Right well there has been some progress made...

My mate has brought round all the bits i told him to order, so i am going to work on that today to get the bulk of that out the way. so i can finish it off!

My car has been sprayed and is looking really nice! I just need to give it a really good polish up now.

Here are some pictures of it! the roofs a little dusty at the moment!

Oops has a flatty on the front right hence why it looks like a lowrider! haha

I chose it because of how glossy and bright it is!

Left on my list to do are...
Finish the engine off then put it back in
install all the interior
Spray and fit wheelarches
Paint inside of the boot
Put my other wheels on
Adjust all of the suspension and negative camber
Make some new door cards
install the perspex windows
get a new front screen and install it
intall the four pots (i can only do once i put the new wheels on!)
Bleed all the brakes
get the engine set to a good tune then take it down the road to get tuned up properly
Rub down everything chrome, etch it all then gloss black it to match the roof
install all the bits on exterior (handles, lights etc)

i think thats it... i dunno yet i also have a list of things to buy as well!

oh god!

Anybody like the colour?

Right a quick bank holiday update...

On the way home from the all american show at santa pod at the moment. The weather held out and it was a good day in the end a bit chilly but the sun was appreciated when it came out!

Off to the garage tomorrow with one of my best mates to start fitting it back up there are many other things id like for my car but theyll have to come later i think!

Looking at some of the cars today and watchin them scream up the strip makes me wana finish off my one!

Really need to get some fixed rear quarter window seals and my cam timing kit now!
Its all money money money! Haha

I have rubbed most of the chrome bits down with 180 and then etched everything up so it is ready to have the black painted on it.
It came out quite good; I have done the headlamp bowls so that it is a bit different. I still need to fit some more bits and bobs up and decide what I want to do with the grille.

The rooflining didnt come pre cut and i didnt fancy cutting it so we had a local trimmer fit it however the rear quarter panels were nasty to fit luckily no one is gettin in the back!
