Google is your friend.

Why not go and get a Basic Troupical fish keeping book from a pet shop?

I know quite a lot about tropical fish and have had a few Plecs so any questions let me know. The advise so far I would agree with. They try jump out of the tank too so make sure you don't find it marching across the floor. Seen them up to about a foot long.

I used to work for an aquatics specialist, and plecs are really easy to look after, give them some where to hide something to eat, and leave them too it.

they do prefer the dark, and its nice not just to plonk them in a tank alone!! But you can put them in with almost anything as long as it isnt to small to fit in its mouth as they will accidentally suck up any small fish knocking about! They have a hard outer skin on their back, so can be kept with more violent fish as it wont bother them.
You can buy various different species and sizes which all vary in size, ie the zebra plec used to be about £50 for one only around 3 inches long yet other types were only about £3 for a simliar size. generally the most expensive ones tend to be a bit more 'fragile' and not like changes in water type or temp, ,but the cheaper ones tend to be much easier to look after!

good luck

My friend keeps a few plecs some quite rare I believe a blue eyed one, dread to think how much he paid for him :teehee: His tank is 6.5 foot long although he also has an arowana (sp) in there as well which can grow quite huge!

Imo best looking plecs are golden nuggets :) http://www.aqua-fish...get-pleco-1.jpg
