Market share, they wanted the biggest impact possible on day 1.

I'm liking the developer tools, hopefully it'll ease my Safari issues. It's a shame that IE, the world's most popular browser and therefore the one that 70% of my customers use is so useless for developers, and I don't mean the complete lack of standards compliance blah blah rant rant.

Agreed!!

I've been using Chrome for a couple of weeks now. I have IE6, FF and Chrome installed and just find myself loading chrome every evening now. Of course for development work I use FF3 (thank god Firebug is now compatible!), but I find Chrome best for general browsing.

Yea i have it too and its much faster for looking at Myspace or Facebook which have become depressingly slow with ie7 over the last month.. i.e. to load a page takes over a min with explorer but with chrome its done in seconds.

HOWEVER - now my pc makes weird hard-drive clicking noises every now and then, and the cd drive spins up on its own (disc in but not being accessed) both of which never happened with explorer.

I don't like WebKit's text rendering, everything looks bold.

I gave up using Firebug - it causes more problems than it solves so I just use alerts >_< Damned annoying coming from a background with proper remote debugging.

Whats been your experience with google chrome?

I'm using right now like the simple interface, its very quick to learn which sites you visit (you get this in firefox 3, although not sure about IE8) its actually quite quick.

The only down sides are; its a larger file size than firefox, I can only scroll down on my mouse wheel and I'm led to believe its still in beta (though not really a bad thing)

Anyone else get a really annoying thing with Chrome where sometimes it just stops loading pages for a few minutes whilst it 'Resolves proxy'?

I'm waiting for it to be released for Mac, would be very interested to see how it performs compared to Safari.

I love Safari, the only thing I don't like about it is the slightly poorer handling of tabs (as opposed to Firefox), but its speed over Firefox is way better.

Tom have you heard of crossover office? This can be for linux based and mac based systems to well install microsoft apps over it a layer if you will they have got chrome to work with this, there is a 30 trial if you want to try it
