Pin has partially/fully dropped out of the gear selector rods. Dead easy 2 min fix.

Even if that's true, the car should still go into gear.
As said above it's probably the gear selector pin.

??? That doesn't make much sense. Ok engine mount undone, but shorting the alternator? On what?

It'd explain the difficulties with the gearchange tho'.

Top engine steady (dogbone thing) dead easy, just replace the rubbers and refit.

Bottom engine ones like yoga for fingers. disconnect top dogbone. Disconnect any engine steadies under the engine (there are many types front and back) Jack up front of car then put on axle stands, then put jack under engine and lift just a little. Dislocate all fingers on right hand and undo the 2 bolts on the subframe and the 3 on the gearbox and clutch housing. Replace mounts. Replace fingers.

hiya thanks for help, the garage is the place where I work and they havent tried fixing it or anything but i dont know what he meant that the engine was shorting the alternator (causing cut out) but beckys 17, jsut passed test and I think that shes just got panicky and stalled it several times because I drove it back and it was ok, going slowly. going to get some engine mounts now and will let you all know, butthankyou for the info....

all the best,

Thanks!
