Saw a mini the other night, had a med 1380 with a twin oil filter system combined with a oil cooler.
Apparently this is to filter the oil before it enters the engine, and also as it exits the engine.
Is this an easy modification to do, my engines coming out soon and while its out would it be worth while modifiying it to fit?
mine should be conbined with a oil cooler also.

Not possible, the oil exits the engine down the push rod galleries and from dripping off all the internal surfaces of the crankcase to return to the sump. There is no return pipe. You couldn't collect all that up and get it through a filter. I can imagine a system using twin filters to increase the filter surface area and so reduce the load on the oil pump, in turn reducing internal losses of the engine but I can't imagine it would be that worthwhile. Have you got any pictures?

Yea, i bought an engine with this set up... i never used it tho, i re-built the engine as soon as i got it, ant i just put it back to 'standard' oil system. It involves first blocking off the oil gallery where it enters the block from the gearbox. Then you need to have a hose coming out the back of the gearbox where that plate is which holds the oil pickup pipe. The hose then is routed into your oil filter housing. Then from the filter housing you have another hose going into the oil galleries at the back of the block, just before the oil pump.
It is considered the ultimate filtration method, as you say, it cleans the oil before it goes round the engine. Tho for most applications its a bit overkill. Its quite an expensive thing to do too, but if you want the ultimate protection its a good solution.

So all it does is add a pre-filter protecting the pump? Seems a lot of work and expense for very little gain to be honest and is going to add more load to the oil pump.

The oil is filtered before it get in to the engine. But the oil pump gets fed unfiltered, JetB's set up would address that. It would also make priming the pump harder

Only weird oil filter systems I've seen use "full flow" big filter, as the oil filter has a pressure bypass on it.

The bypass valve isn't so bad, but it was much better when it had a warning light.
