I have recently bought a 1981 Mini HL, it's interior and body work seem to be mainly original, with a few minor exceptions,.. Due to the age I have been debating restoring it back to Factory spec but am having trouble finding any info,.. someone said there was a pic of one on here somewhere but I can't find anything with the search feature (may just be me being thick) Anyone point me int he right direction?

Thank you :-

Looks very nice Linzi, and about as original as my HL:

Late Cooper interior (Inc. dash), 5 x10 Mabas, 4 spots, and a fair bit of chrome... Although I intend mine to stay as it is, lol.

P.S Sorry for the hi-jack

No worries Mini Morley,.. nice Mini by the way.

I'm still in two minds what to do with Biff,.. part of me wants factory spec but playing round with a few ideas at the mo... thinking of putting black bumpers, grill and numberplate light on, putting back on 10's, keeping spots and tinted windows, but loosing the exhaust in favour of a stage 1 kit,.. but will keep interior as is.

Don't want to do anything major or that will cost too much money as I'm in the process of saving to do a bare metal ground up restoration on my other Mini Puddles (one in sig) who is my baby. Thinking of keeping Biff as a daily driver once Puddles is done and having Puddles as a weekend and show car.

Shifty, im restoring some mambas at the moment

Doh pressed submit.

Linzi, id keep it as it is. It looks good as it is and you have puddles to concentrate on rather than spend money on him too.

Id say keep it as your daily as it is (although might be an idea to change to an RC40 so you don't ruin your hearing) and sort Puddles, then once you have Puddles sorted then maybe concentrate on making Biff original spec/ spec that you want...

Well yeah i have thought that too but putting black bumpers etc back on is only the matter of a few screws as i already have them, they came with him when i bought him.

As for the wheels my main reasoning there was I'm used to 13x7's with good tyres on Puddles,. and I'm finding with these 12's on *rubbish* tyres and not as much rubber on the floor, is somewhat compromising his cornering,.. and making them somewhat a scarey experience!!!! As for the exhaust, well i have a massive bruise on my leg because i forgot it was in center when i polished him but mainly its spitting black *rubbish* all over rear end of him.

So thinking on pricing things up, but not doing anything major untill Puddles is done, which I can't start any work on untill the new year and my garage is free,.. currently got another project in the garage lol!!!

Well you could always just get some good tyres on him rather than get new wheels. Be a cheaper option than changing them. Im putting Jynx on 12" for winter... brrr salty roads and stuff ha ha.
